Summary: It's About Time
Review: Finally a comprehensive and supportive book for pagan parents!!! The exercises and games have been great fun and have helped us all get to know each other (and ourselves)better. We have used the author's suggestions about being Out and other hard questions as a starting point for family discussions that have been amazingly productive.

An important addition to the bookshelf of any pagan parent..or any beginning pagan for that matter!

Summary: FABULOUS, EVEN WHILE BABY STILL RESIDES IN WOMB!
Review: I love this book! I am a first time mom of a 10 week old, and wish I had found this book sooner! There are meditations to connect with your unborn child, to help prepare for birth, as well as beginning journeys for children! The ceremonies are great for kids of all ages. I shared this with a 9 year old pagan friend who couldn't wait to share it with her mom and do the family rituals. There are bedtime prayers, grace, songs for sabbats...WONDERFUL!!

Summary: Excellent
Review: I loved this book so much that I just came back to buy one for a friend. I found this book to be incredibly supportive of the diversity among pagans. Nowhere did she say anyone should do or believe anything. In fact, I thought she went out of her way to encourage parents to find their own ways and follow their own hearts, using her suggestions and the experiences she shared (not just hers) as a place to start.

She wrote that she included the sections on abortion because it is a fact of life for many people and healing that pain is often important. I looked and could not find anywhere that said anyone should be pro-choice.

One of my favorite things about this book is the fact that she is so encouraging and supportive. She nevers says you need to believe her or see things her way - she does just the opposite in some places. Other than that, I really loved the questions and healing chapters, which is why I'm buying another as a gift.

Summary: very basic
Review: I must say that the more books aimed at pagan parenting the better, but this book is definately geered more toward the parent who is new to paganism and parenting. It has many cute ideas and activities to do with kids. If you are a seasoned parent or pagan, this book will simply be old news.

Summary: Yech.
Review: I was very irritated by many parts of this book, including the rather obnoxious implication that if you are not pro-choice, you must somehow be holding on to views from your previous non-Pagan upbringing. There are statements made as if they were known truths (for instance, when the soul enters the body before birth) that are, of course, a matter of belief. Paganism covers a huge spectrum of beliefs and values. This book does not represent mine.

Summary: Good for beginner parents too
Review: I'm relatively new to all of this and am still figuring out how to explain things to my kids. Not only did this book help me with that, it also helped me understand alot of the things I have been reading and hearing about. Now that I am clearer, my explanations to my kids are clearer. It is a fantastic overview of paganism from a basic level and I REALLY appreciate that.

Also, the exercises and games are great for kids, but I have fun with them too and I find that my abilities are strengthened in the process.

Great book!

Summary: a philosophical basis for raising your kids
Review: Madden's text gives handy rituals for kids of all ages, but also gives due consideration to the philosophy of raising happy children, be they Pagan or otherwise, and to the spiritual developmental concepts that characterise the life passages of conception, birth, menarche and other changes. I was especially interested in the author's views on reincarnation, psychic bond between child and parent, and how this changes as the child gets older.

The book was well-written, engaging and informative. I was a bit concerned with some minor factual errors in the section on natural health, however. I'm a qualified naturopath and homoeopath, and Madden's description of homoeopathy was a little confused with the use of tissue salts (aka celloids). Having said that, much of the information in that particular chapter was helpful.

If you've got kids, or are contemplating having them, it is an extremely worthwhile book to acquire.

Summary: Warm and Friendly
Review: Reading this book was like sitting down over coffee with a good, very knowledgeable friend. Health and Healing and the elements exercises were my favorite parts, along with the huge resources section. I also appreciated the FYI about pagan gatherings. I haven't been to one yet but I am thankful to have a glimpse into what happens so I and my kids can be prepared.

I'd recommend this to everyone and anyone.
