Rating: Summary: Winner of the WordWeaving Award for Excellence Review: Forty years of heterosexual living did not prepare me for the dilemma of discerning IS IT A DATE OR JUST COFFEE when I started dating women. Well, perhaps dating was too strong a word since it always seems to turn out to be coffee. When straight gals meet straight guys, they know what to expect. With gay-gal dating, they seem to be showering together before reaching a consensus as to whether or not they are friends or something more. Fortunately, Mo Brownsey takes some of the confusion out gay-gal dating with her wonderful book. From being single, relationships, breakups and mourning, Brownsey covers it all. Need help identifying the dreaded lesbian bed death? Not sure if it's lust or love? Considering multiple partner relationships? Mo supplies the answers along with tongue-in-cheek comedy that will keep you howling with laughter no matter where you are concerning gay-gal relationships. I admit to suffering from STD myself (Sexually Transmitted Denial). For gals like me who find themselves in the midst of redefining their sexuality, and refuse to take the whole dating thing too seriously, Mo Brownsey's book is the definitive answer for the basics of gay-gal dating. Her comedic approach to relationships, breakups, recovery and sex is an indispensable guide for those new to this lifestyle as well as gay-gals who've always know that they weren't straight but love a good laugh. Indeed, straight or lesbian, all women will find themselves in this remarkably astute book. IS IT A DATE OR JUST COFFEE earns the WordWeaving Award for Excellence.
Rating: Summary: Entertaining and well-written! Review: I originally read a review for this in the Gay & Lesbian section of London's Time Out magazine and just had to pick it up! The only thing that frustrated me was that it seems to be more aimed toward the experienced Lesbian/Bisexual woman than toward newcomers to the scene. However, it is a witty commentary on and guide to same-sex girl relationships and I thought that overall it was a great read. Reading the book really makes me want to see Mo live! This is less a resource guide than a tongue-in-cheek commentary on all aspects of Lesbian singlehood, relationships and dating. A good read for anyone with a sense of humor..gay or straight.
Rating: Summary: THIS BOOK ROCKS! Review: I swear to you, I only put this book down long enough to take care of bodily functions. I laughed so hard in the middle of the night while devouring this book (along with some rice pudding) that I frightened my pets. But I told them all about it and even they laughed...especially my girl puppy! Professor Brownsey writes with an incomparable stinging wit tinged with crackling cynicism, yet she remains on the high road, without resorting to meanness or derogatory passages...even through her hilarious self-deprecating stories. The words are true; the very essence of this book feels so real, so right, and so very funny. Mo has hit the nail right on the head with this collection of essays. I predict great success and fame for her. It is FABULOUS...I promise, you'll be recommending it to all your friends!
Rating: Summary: MO' MO, PLEASE!! Review: I've seen Mo onstage and she is smart and hilarious and cute and sexy wrapped up into one package deal. My friends and I all have major crushes on her...we hear she's going back on tour soon. Yeah! Anyway, this book totally rawks. I loved everything about it. It's Mo all the way. Very smart, very cutting edge, very funny. Go Mo! And PLEASE come to entertain us SOON!
