Summary: An Author with a true Heart
Review: As a pastor's wife, I was thrilled to find a book I could recommend. I have given several copies away to women who have been yearning to come home. And I have a copy in our church library. It is conversational in tone and the applications are down-to-earth. It is meant to give the doubting hope that coming home is truly possible when realistic goals are set and met. Also, I have found that the author's webpage (homebodies.org) is an excellent source of encouragement as well. Gochnauer truly communicates heartfelt ministry.

Summary: Excellent resource for any mom!
Review: Cheryl Gochnauer has written a concise, fun-to-read book that will be an encouragement to moms who are already home with their children, and one that will help women struggling with the decision to stay home make an educated decision. Gochnauer presents a very even-handed look at the pros and cons of being a stay-at-home mom and shares the personal experiences of many families as they made the decision to have mom "come home".

Summary: Decision to Stay at Home is Assumed
Review: I did not find this book to be helpful in making my decision to stay at home. It seems to assume that everyone would make that decision given the financial stability necessary to do so. While it is based on Christian values, it often does so at the expense of sensibility, i.e., cashing out your 401K to stay at home. Even as a Christian, I found the biblical references a bit much.

This book is probably beneficial if you are have already decided you want to stay at home and are looking for strategies and advice on how to facilitate your choice.

Summary: A fairly good read!
Review: I found the book informative and it further confirmed my own views on this subject. However, it could have done without all the religious overtones. The author includes quotes from the Bible a number of times and talks about how her children should be raised with a religious influence in their lives. What has Christianity and religion got to do with staying at home with your children? The answer is "nothing", and it should have been kept out of the book!

Summary: Inspiring and affirming
Review: I have reread this book several times to gather encouragement and strength from the struggles of quitting full-time teaching to be a stay-at-home mom in a culture where what you HAVE and what you DO is WHO you are. It describes the challenges and the thrills of being a parent. The author addresses the difficulties involved in quitting a career you are dedicated to in order to put your family first. The students I worked with (and mine too) were struggling in school with not enough support from home, where parents were too caught up in accomplishing work tasks that demanded priority over home tasks. This book refreshed and reminded me why it was important to focus on my growing family and not my possessions or my career. I can ALWAYS go back to teaching. My children won't always be at home needing my support.

Summary: The title of the book is mis-leading...
Review: I was expecting to get a book that had practical advice for turning a two income family into one. Instead the book didn't contain many practical ideas and was filled with a heavy pro-christian agenda. I never realized that I could use giving children piano lessons as a method of not only picking up extra income, but I could turn it into an opportunity to covert children into my belief system. While I'm by no means anti-christian, the book doesn't help deal with many of the day to day lessons and issues that many of us face with making such a tough, and personal choice. To sum up the book, the lesson is that God will provide, which many of us are aware of from our Bible teachings. If you're looking for a handbook with good lessons, skip this book. If you're intersted in a sermon, this is the perfect book for you.
