Rating: Summary: Think before you act!! Review: A collection of thought-provoking questions that work not only for couples or newly-weds, but for any human relationship. Piver's work is a great tool to revisit our own beliefs, boundaries, likes and dislikes. An over-the-counter aid to follow Socrate's advice: Know thyself. I gave it away as a gift to a friend who was going to get married... I wish I hadn't.
Rating: Summary: Great Book - Wow Review: After seeing Susan on Oprah, I bought the book immediately-- to share it with a couple who is getting married soon. They really need this book - big time. This is a must read before anyone gets married. This simple book is all about asking questions and getting to know each other. Beautiful and simple. If you are getting married or know anyone who is, read this book and ask the questions of each other.
Rating: Summary: Great questions that lead to very deep conversations Review: Although I'm already very happily married, my wife and I have found this book to be incredibly stimulating. She bought a copy on impulse for a friend who's getting married, but after skimming through it, we ended up keeping a copy for ourselves and buying another for our friend. We haven't finished it yet (not by a long shot), but we have found the process of answering the questions very insightful and provocative. We have discovered things about each other that might have taken years to find out. We have had some incredibly deep and interesting (and sometimes quite difficult) conversations that have lead us to whole new levels of understanding about each other. I'm generally not a big "self help" guy, and I was definitely skeptical when she started reading the questions to me, but it really has been a fun and helpful (albeit also a little scary sometimes) process. I recommend this book highly and not just for people who are contemplating getting married. I think it's an excellent book for any two people who are involved in a committed relationship and who want to understand each other better and perhaps take their relationship to a deeper, more meaningful level.
Rating: Summary: More Please Review: As the Disability Host on BellaOnline, I found the book good, but wished it was bigger in size and had more questions. It's a very small book and hard to handle physically.
Rating: Summary: Ask yourself the sober question Review: Do you really love him/her enough to tie the knot? If there was one book that convinced me to do the ultimate reality check, it was this book. I contemplated that maybe I did, maybe I didn't love him. The book stalled my decision enough for me to find out that he was cheating on me for over 2 years. I was furious! I broke off the engagement and stopped seeing him. Thanks to this book I am free him and his backwards ways. Thank you Susan. I ordered this book along with another book called Dreams: Gateway to the True Self. It was a book that made me realize who I was again and that I have to be the most important person in my life. And not put a man above me. Thank you to both authors.
Rating: Summary: Recommend something else. Review: I also saw this on Oprah and was excited. Was a let down...I was hoping it would be more Christian based and not so superficial. I would recommend "300 Questions Every LDS Couple Should Ask Before Marriage-- Alder. It's for mormons but most of the questions are christian based if your looking for something with that slant.
Rating: Summary: Interesting Review: I been pondering the 'I do' for over a year now and this book has shown me that neither of us are ready for that kind of commitment. For a change in thinking, exciting new revelations, and thought provoking ideas see Dreams:Gateway to the True Self.
Rating: Summary: Need More Questions Review: I found that this book was lacking in dozens if not hundreds of essential questions that should be asked before couples make a lifetime commitment. Most of the questions were good but I had to look elsewhere to find the questions that I knew were lacking. Definitely check out 1000 Questions for Couples.
Rating: Summary: Surprising Results! Review: I ordered this book based on seeing Susan Piver on "Oprah". Although I didn't question my love, communication with my husband needed some "work", so I thought this book could be helpful. I was extraordinarily surprised by the results. My first surprise was that my husband was so willing and eager to participate in this. My second surprise was some of the answers and information we exchanged. Some of the simpler questions that I thought would be one word answers, led to deep discussions. There is no question but that this book has been extremely helpful to us. Even without the book to guide us, we now find the exchange of honest and open conversation much easier. "The Hard Questions" is a good book!!!
Rating: Summary: A must have for any couple Review: I received this book as a gift from my Mom a few years back after Oprah had discussed it on her show. I found the book to be great. Any couple considering marriage should sit down together and answer the questions. If you want to make sure you are on the same page right from the start like we wanted to know, the book is worth your time.
