Rating: Summary: Informative, but too repetitive Review: This book does share a lot of important information on breastfeeding and resolving complications, but I found it to be too repetitive. If the book was better editted and organized, it could be at least half as long. Also, the author repeatedly goes into a political debate on why breastfeeding is the best choice for your child. If I didn't already agree with this point, I wouldn't have bought the book in the first place.
Rating: Summary: Practical, well indexed, and realistic. Review: This book is great. When I was pregnant I received LLL's "Womanly Art of Breastfeeding" but found it to be fairly, well, preachy and unrealistic. There wasn't any practical advice on how to solve problems, or deal with issues of working moms, etc. This book gives you sound advice on issues such as common problems like plugged ducts, breastmilk storage, nursing past one year, how to deal with serious medical issues such as premature birth, etc. It's not meant to be read from start to finish, but the thorough index makes finding any specific information a breeze. Highly recommended for any would-be nurser.

Rating: Summary: If you only buy 1 breastfeeding guide, this is it! Review: This is the most thorough, helpful, & realistic guide to breastfeeding I've seen. I suffered through over 3 months of desparate attempts to nurse my daughter 2 yrs. ago, pouring through other breastfeeding books & seeing lactation consultants for help. This book is complete in its recommendations for preparing for breastfeeding & for knowing when to seek help for problems within the first week. Unlike books I read 2 yrs. ago before this one was published, a realistic approach is taken for the severity of problems some women experience and the importance of putting the baby's weight gain & welfare over attempts to continue breastfeeding at all costs.
