Rating: Summary: Meaty vegetarian meals Review: I love a hearty protein packed dinner. But I don't love heart disease or animal suffering. This book taught me how to make some of the terrific new products now available in my local "Ralph's" (such as protein packed Gimme Lean and Silk soymilk) into delicious dinners that delight my vegan and my meateating friends. It is wonderful.
Rating: Summary: Slightly Disappointed Review: I was very excited when I saw this cookbook on Discovery's Home Matters. I'm trying to change my eating/food habits by making healthier choices. This book seemed like a wonderful way to introduce soy products into my diet and have fun. The recipes look great. My disappoint lies in the fact that all the recipes are for 4 or more servings with most being for 6 or 8 servings. As a single person I do not want to be eating the same meal for a solid week. Even if I half the recipes there will still be a great deal of waste. This really isn't a great way to introduce a healthier way of eating to the public. I would love to see Ms. Oser put out something along this idea using recipes for 1 or 2 servings.
Rating: Summary: Awesome Veggie Book Review: I'm a busy bachelor and have rarely cooked for myself. A friend recommended "Soy of Cooking" to me and it rocks! The food is simply delicious, the recipies are even easy for the kitchen-challenged, and it calls for the very best in Earth's good food. (I read the review of the woman who says it calls for artificial ingredients -- I think she posted her review to the wrong book: I couldn't find any synthetic ingredients in the "Soy of Cooking".) I'm not vegetarian but now I think it may not be such a bad idea. I'm glad some chefs love food and health enough to write a cook book that keeps my palette happy and heart beating...
Rating: Summary: Easiest way to get the benefits of soy! Review: Marie Oser appeared on HGTV a long time ago and made her famous Chocolate Tofu Brownies and after I tried that recipe I knew I would be hooked. By using silken soy in pasta dishes and stir fry vegetables with actual SPICE, I was able to actually enjoy soy. I think that soy is a very intimidating ingredient for people since they really don't understand how completely versatile it is. This book has recipes that are so easy to follow and don't take very much time to prepare. She also has a glossary of soy terms and includes a lot of alternatives to things like sugar and butter which can or cannot be used, based on what the reader is looking for. Personally, I preferred the sucanat and prune spreads, etc. But this is a fantastic starting point for those cooks who have never cooked with soy. The only negative thing I have to say about this book was that she suggested Westsoy as the best flavored soy milk - I would have to insist that Edensoy is much better!
Rating: Summary: She made it easy.. Review: Recently deciding to become vetetarian I knew that I would be doomed to eating peas and potatoes forever.. And then I happened to find vegsource.com on the internet who introduced me to Marie Oser via her discussion board. The board eventually led me to purchase her book Soy of Cooking. For two months now I have used her recipes and they are delicious.. I was proud to serve company over the weekend.. I love this cookbook and would certainly buy it again.
Rating: Summary: good book Review: Some very good recipes and easy to follow.
Rating: Summary: Soy of Cooking is not JUST for the tofu-impaired, .... Review: Soy of Cooking, by Marie Oser Reviewed by Mimi Clark, "Veggie Gourmet" Soy of Cooking, by Marie Oser, is for all intents and purposes, a textbook in my vegetarian cooking classes. In addition to the wide variety of delectable soy recipes, it is also an excellent reference book; a primer not JUST for the tofu-impaired, but also for health-conscious individuals who recognize the importance of incorporating soyfoods into their daily diet in an effort to protect against disease. Ms. Oser's creative use of tofu, tempeh, TVP, miso and soymilk satisfies even the most sophisticated palate. And her section on desserts proves that one needn't feel deprived when egg and dairy products are omitted from recipes. This point was originally illustrated in her first book, Luscious Low Fat Desserts. Ms. Oser was one of the first authors to successfully replace butter/margarine with tofu. A perfect example of this concept is illustrated in "Marie's Incredible Chocolate Brownies," on page 233 of Soy of Cooking; my students' favorite!

I've found them to be the tastiest and the healthiest I've ever found. If you're a new vegetarian and trying to find food that won't leave you wishing to go back to meat, you must get this cookbook! If you are a meat eater, get this cookbook and try a few recipes--you'll wonder what point there would be to going back to meat. Keep the delicious recipes coming, Marie!
