Rating: Summary: A godsend for my daughter and me Review: As a reader, giftgiver and new grandfather, Spencer's book was a godsend. My daughter relied on it daily. It helped me understand what she was going through. Importantly, for us both, the book is written in a sensitive and caring way -- sometimes we felt like Paula was there with us. I would highly recommend this book for soon-to-be new mothers and for the people who love them.
Rating: Summary: Two Thumbs Up! Review: Having bought a lot of books during my first pregnancy, this book clearly came out as the 'winner' in all categories. First, it is written in plain and simple english that anyone can easily understand. It is well-organized, so creatively in fact using a real pregnant model in its "four trimesters" chapters also showing the changes in her body each trimester brings. The topics progressively expand to those in which an expectant mom currently faces and the variety of 'new things' she experiences, in that certain time frame. The real-life stories of pregnant mothers, their experiences, challenges and how they've handled their trying ordeals makes any apprehensive and excited expectant mom feel positive and enthusiastic about herself. Also,it is very informative and exhausts all its efforts to do outstanding research. It is medically-sound and contains little or no biases. It even answers questions to old wives tales many infancticipating moms hear lots about. It is the most up-to-date pregnancy book among all I've read. My husband too learned much of what I've went through through this book. My only regret is that its fourth trimester chapter ended too soon.
Rating: Summary: I am one of the woman in the book Review: I absolutely LOVE this book, and no it's not just because I'm in it! I am unfortunately in the miscarriage section and since I was interviewed for the book in 96, I had yet another miscarriage. I have now had three miscarriages, but do have a healthy four year old daughter. I remain positive though. I was so excited to get this book home and see where I was in it, but REALLY found out how remarkable this book is. I was amazed with the amount of information on every subject, and will give this book to my sister Laura as soon as she finds out she is expecting. If you just found out your pregnant....this is the ONLY book you'll need! Sharon Heaps

Rating: Summary: Reassuring for any first time mother Review: I found this book to be very informative, helpful and reassuring. Rating: Summary: Helpful for Dad too! Review: I read sections of the book just ahead of what my wife was going through each week and found them very useful as they covered everything I needed to know. It helped me understand and as a result I became more patient with her. I found the "What if..." and "Is it true..." sections most enlightening as they clarify and debunk alot of the "myths" we in Asian culture believe in. The book is also based on updated medical research and practices. We are delighted to have received this as a gift.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding value, great price Review: If you're looking for a comprehensive guide, this is it. I thought it was better and more realistic than 'What to Expect When You're Expecting.' It also has really great stories about real mothers. It's not preachy either.
Rating: Summary: I was pregnant while I wrote this book. Review: In writing the Parenting Guide to Pregnancy and Childbirth, I tried to include not only all the essential medical facts but also the many other issues that absorbed me during my three pregnancies: psychological changes, work and relationship issues, nagging little questions, fun stuff like baby names and maternity clothes, and the truth about all the strange Old Wives Tales I'd hear (Would my feet really grow? Did acne mean I was having a boy?). I also tried to present the info in a helpful, realistic way--this is not a book where you'll get lectured for eating ice cream. None of the other pregnancy books I'd read combined all the latest health info with such a broad range of other issues relating to pregnancy. So that's what we've tried to bring together here. It also helped that I was pregnant the entire time I wrote the book, which reminded me of the sorts of questions (both large and small) that we pregnant women worry about. And when I needed to describe something like it's like to feel the baby kick, all I had to do was stop typing for a few minutes!
