Summary: The Hidden Epidemic
Review: Heart disease is six times more likely to cause a woman's deaththan breast cancer. It is the leading cause of death among womentoday, even more than men, yet we rarely read or hear about it. In fact, most heart attacks in women get diagnosed if not ignored completely. Why has this epidemic been overlooked by medicine and how can women protect themselves? Dr. Stephen Sinatra, a board certified physician in both internal medicine and cardiology, breaks through popular misconceptions about heart disease and explains:-Why heart medications work different for women -How women's early warning symptoms are totally different from men's--and why your cardiologist might not recognize them (until it's too late)-The suprising news about cholesterol, homocysteine, lipoprotein , and LDL oxidation -Why your intuition might be more reliable than a prescription-His natural program for reducing your blood pressure and reducing your reliance on medication -How a modified Mediterranrean diet will help you prevent or reverse heart disease, as well as osteoporosis and cancer... plus, the top 12 heart healing food groups -Why nutritional supplements are essential for heart health and longevity, including the five natural vitamins and minerals you must have in your daily regimen

Summary: Informative but hard to keep reading
Review: I bought this book because I had seen a lot of people referance from it in magazine articles so I assumed it would be very informative. While it is informative it is very much like reading a text book for me. I have had to read it in small portions at a time because so much information at one time gets pretty boring. I find myself taking notes while I read it so that I can remember key points that I felt were important. The "Mediterranean" diet that this book recommends for a healthy heart is really unrealistic in my opinion. It basically cuts out most foods that people enjoy eating and leaves a very bland diet. I love eating and I do try to eat healthy, but this diet is just too much. I would recommend this book as an informative book for women who have a family history of heart disease and enjoy reading very educational books on women's health.

Summary: Very boring, reads like a textbook.
Review: I found this book to be very boring. I bought it because I had seen it referanced in a lot of magazine articles. It may be good for looking up useful information on heart disease, but not really a preventative book. The diet recommended in this book is unrealistic to me and seems like a diet that would be recommended to a person who was diagnosed with heart disease and had to change their lifestyle.

Summary: Essential Material
Review: This book belongs in the hands of every woman and every man who knows a woman. Heart disease kills women more and faster than any other disease. Women have to smarten up about this. Dr. Sinantra is THE person to listen to when it comes to women's hearts. He is a compassionate, caring, and uniquely skilled physician who loves women, understands what makes women tick (literally and figuratively), and he wants to help keep women healthy and happy. Please buy it. Even if you and yours have no history of heart disease. If you are not so inclined don't let the word "natural" in the title throw you. This is bona fide medical information. Heartbreak and Heart Disease is also great....

Summary: Family history woes!
Review: Unfortunately, women in our family seem to have the hidden killer of heart disease. I vow to stop that trend. Sinatra's book is the key to showing me how. I found the information very understandable and the suggestions valid. Co-Q10, ALA, etc are supplements that will help me maintain a healthy heart - along with diet and exercise of course. Additional documentation that coroborates with Sinatra's research can be found at a site called PapaNature. See for yourself how important it is that we women understand this silent killer. It seems that the medical field is a bit slow in identifying the various (and different from men) symptoms women have. See what Sinatra and PapaNature have to offer in terms of information and supplements to help us help (save) ourselves.

If you already have heart problems you can learn how to help yourself. Dr. Sinatra not only has the finest medical credentials, he is an expert in both alternative medicine and the psychological solutions needed to complete the picture.
