I turned to "Parent Talk", so I could learn how to encourage self-esteem, respondsible behavior, and motivate the children to be the best they could be. An interesting and unexpected benefit was that, "Parent Talk" helped me communicate more effectively in all my relationships not just with the children. If you are interested in empowering your children or grandchildren or others, "Parent Talk " is the book for you. I think it should be on every school and home book shelf.
Rating: Summary: practical tips for parenting Review: I enjoyed reading this book a great deal. It is easy to read! The author makes practical suggestions on how you can change your wording when correcting or praising your precious child. I highly recommend this to all parents who want to empower their children!!!
Rating: Summary: Changed the climate in our household Review: I saw Chick Moorman speak about Parent Talk and ultimately read the book at a time when I needed some guidance on parenting a 4 year old. I shared Chick's feelings of respect and responsibility for my son, but didn't know how to phrase these concepts "in the heat of the moment". This book taught me the way to say what I want my child to hear - that I love him and respect him and that I want to teach him to be responsible for his actions. Each page is an example you can put into use immediately. It's common sense all good parents have been searching for.I have recommended this book to ever parent I know.
Rating: Summary: Great ideas for communication Review: I would recommend this book to all parents as a source for creating better communication between parents and kids. Covered in "Parent Talk," and certainly not a new topic, is the psychological impact our words have on our kids. Sayings you might think are harmless may have short- and long-term effects that you never realized. Chick Moorman gives ways to word, or reword, what we say for maximum nurturing, as well as showing us what to say to help our kids think for themselves. Even if you know how your words affect your children, this book gives options in a variety of categories (responsibility, praise, criticism, learned helplessness, etc.) that you might not have thought of. It is easy to read with brief chapters following each suggested, or not suggested, "parent talk" statement. The statement-then-definition format does get redundant, but aside from that, I would encourage parents to read this book.
Rating: Summary: Phrases that encourage kids to make responsible choices. Review: Parent Talk is a practical system of communication that helps parents encourage responsible behavior and healthy self-esteem in their children. This book is humorous and delightful to read. Chick Moorman uses every-day illustrations to describe techniques of positive discipline which are highly effective with children of all ages.
Rating: Summary: FILLED WITH PRACTICAL IDEAS FOR RAISING RESPONSIBLE CHILDREN Review: PARENT TALK is about how parents talk to their children. It reveals verbal communication that scolds, shames, and criticizes as well as words which praise, nurture, and empower children. There is an undeniable link between the words parents speak and the attitudes and outcomes children produce in their lives. Your choice of words, and your style of communication, are critical to the self-esteem, emotional health, and personal empowerment of your children. PARENT TALK will help you intentionally select words and phrases that will encourage self-responsibility in your children and enhance their effectiveness as capable, caring human beings. If you hear yourself getting caught in power struggles, catch yourself using sarcasm, or would like your children to be more respectful or responsible, this could be the book for you. I put his book together because I am on a mission to help parents communicate more effectively with their children. In PARENT TALK, you will learn to turn your words into those of guidance and love so you can encourage the positive character traits young people so desperately need today.
Rating: Summary: Parent Talk: How to Talk to Your Children in Language That B Review: This is a great book! After 20 years of working with children, I thought I knew all the ways to speak to a child. But this book has given me new insight into the impact that our words have on children. It shows examples of how we inadvertently teach our children 'learned helplessness' and ways to teach them the process of making decisions, handling everyday happenings, and to make their own choices. I have also been amazed at how the advice in this book works with my teenager! So I ventured a step further and have used the advice in this book with co-workers, too, with some amazing results! It is easy to read and refer back to when necessary. Every parent should have a copy of this book handed to them when their children are born.

Rating: Summary: Outstanding Review: This is among the best child-raising "advice" books I've ever read. There are many, very short chapters with practical, easy to follow, common sense advice that parents so rarely follow. I've read and reread many of the sections, and I've recommended this book to others who have given rave reviews as well. THis is a must have!
