Summary: Inspirational! Why and how you should breastfeed
Review: I read this while nursing my two year old and still found it to be inspirational. Discusses why breastfeeding is best- 'way beyond the formula company's required pablum- and the very real risks of denying a child breastmilk and giving formula. Discusses the history of feeding infants, the history of weight charts for assessing growth, and the pitfalls that hospitals often inflict on mothers who intend to breastfeed. Gives great insight into such created feeding problems as "insufficient milk syndrome" and points out that most of those cases are due to inadequate letdown. And points out how to get beyond such nightmares. I really loved this book and was sad when I finished

Summary: A Second Generation Reader of "Nursing Your Baby"
Review: My mother used the first edition of this book to learn how to breastfeed me. When I became pregnant, she found this book for me. It is clear and easy to read. The first half tells all the why's, and clearly supports their arguements. The second half is the how's. With this book I have been able to overcome all the difficulties I encountered while learning how to nurse my son. I have refered to it time and time again to answer all the questions that keep popping up. The only thing I wish it had was photos.

Summary: full of facts and help
Review: This book isn't sweet. It isn't cute. And the font isn't easiest on the eyes. But it's full of facts and help - information I haven't found in any of the other breastfeeding books. The information is given straightforwardly (although certainly biased in favor of breastfeeding - although that's what the books' about, isn't it?), with a great deal of scientific research included. If you're in the market for a non-sentimental informationally based book, this is the one for you. The book also includes practical tips for breastfeeding - how to increase milk supply, use a pump, etc. - all found in other books, but without the sentimental goop that's often found in other books. I would have rated this book higher, but the size of the book (small paperback) and the font doesn't make for the best reading experience.

Summary: My nursing bible
Review: When I had my daughter in 1971, I think I would have failed at breastfeeding if a friend had not given me this book. I successfully nursed six children with its help. Now that 1971 little girl is expecting her first baby--her mom's sending her a copy of "my brestfeeding bible"--Ms Pryer's book.
