Summary: God's Wisdom!
Review: I am finally losing fat! I found this book one afternoon in a bookstore just when I was at the end of my dieting rope...frustrated in the fact that I was trying to change my diet, but not getting anywhere in the fat loss department. I tried low carb, low sugar (which are both good, just not the total answer for me), and other approaches, although still eating some whole grain breads and crackers and other whole grain, but man made products. After much prayer, I found this book and I am now losing fat steadily after removing these whole grain-but man made items. I eat balanced meals, I'm never hungry, have lots of energy and I'm finally sleeping well! God's Diet is easy to shop and cook on, and easy to stay on for my busy soccer mom schedule. I have found my answer....and God in His wisdom knew what to do all the time!

Summary: Bad "science," coupled with terrible theology.
Review: I bought the book, after reading introductory pages indicating the author seemed to be a strong Christian, a medical doctor and a specialist in dietary practice. I had hoped there would be medical and scientific elaboration on Biblical dietary laws, as well as sound practical application in keeping with accepted medical and dietetic practices. Huge, huge disappointment on every count.

What is presented is a ridiculously oversimplified, horribly cliched approach that not only contradicts the American Dietetic Association guidelines, (not to mention the American Heart Association and American Diabetes Association guidelines--people who actually study this stuff.) The sloppy science is coupled with some of the worst theological interpretation of Scriptures I've ever seen. The author's approach contradicts the Bible as much as it contradicts accepted medical and dietary practices. To proclaim that this is somehow "God's" is laughable and [poor] wishful thinking, at best.

The author's list of "ILLEGAL" (also defined as "sinful") foods, would have barred the manna God sent from heaven for the starving people. It would have declared Jesus a sinner for having the audacity to take loaves of bread and feed 4,000 and 5,000. His breaking of bread and serving of wine at the Last Supper would both be considered dreadful dietary practices--illegal and sinful--according to the author's declared no-no's.

I'm quite sure there are good books out there dealing with Biblical dietary principals and what medical and food sciences know today based on legitimate, empiracal research. This book is not one of them.

Summary: The food of the Gods?
Review: I didn't think this book was going to be much help, because I figured "God's diet" meant you'd be eating manna from Heaven 3 times a day, 365 days a year, for 40 years. Fortunately, the book's diet is quite a bit more diverse than that.

Still, I bet that manna thing would make for a great crash diet sometime.

Summary: not quite realistic
Review: I find it absurd to include eating animal meats as part of any diet. Animals are now raised today in warehouses and fed horomones and chemicals, God didnt do that to his creations. Also, in the *old days* we didnt consume pounds of flesh a day as consumers do now, people worked and hunted for thier food! Bread was a part of the daily meals back in the day and to exclude it now doesnt seem quite right, though it partialy makes sence since bread now adays is packed with sugars. If one works a strict vegan life this could work, but not the way she makes it out to be...

Summary: Restoration of All Things
Review: I guess the author feels that when the Lord Jesus says He came to restore ALL things He left out the original diet given in the garden BEFORE the fall. She states that we should only eat what God made. I wonder if she would use the same philosophy in her food preparation. I don't recall the parts of the Bible where God made frying pans. Amazingly SHE has found God's diet AFTER Dr. Atkins, Barry Sears and the like. She insults the many millions of Hindus, Bhuddists, Seventh Day Adventists, and others with her silly claim to know God's will for the use of HIS creatures. The usual answer to this is that God, throughout the Bible, condones the eating of meat. The point most always missed is that Jesus said He came to restore ALL things. (I take liberty to suggest that this is restoration to 'pre fall' times) A simple check of the first chapter of Genesis will show God's diet!

Summary: She's on the right track, but this is DOROTHY'S DIET
Review: I have not read the book, but read the review article, followed by the customer reviews. I agree 100% with Kathy from N. Little Rock.

The bread/pasta/alcohol "no-no" puzzles me. We can eat the grain, but if we turn the grain into bread/pasta, we can't eat it? We can eat the grapes and we can drink its juice, but if we let the juice ferment, we can't drink it? They did in the Bible, where the AUTHOR found "God's Diet". Bread and wine were a big part of the diet in biblical times, you can find evidence of it in both the Old and New Testaments. For this reason I am skeptical of this being "God's Diet" but I believe it to be more of "Dorothy's Diet".

Lacking in the review article was any mention by the author about when we eat and why we eat, i.e. head hunger -vs- true stomach hunger. An important key to weight loss, regardless of what foods we eat. And from a biblical view, I believe God would want the author to include the importance of disipline, wisdom and understanding in this area.

Anyone seeking to lose weight should pay attention to two things: #1)when you eat - ask yourself "am I truly hungry, is this true stomach hunger?" If the answer is yes, then eat WHATEVER YOU LIKE (using Dorothy's premise, but feel free to include bread and wine, should you desire them) until your STOMACH is SATISFIED(don't keep eating after the first burp!) And #2) if your honest answer to #1 is no, ask God to help you understand "why am I eating this" and earnestly listen for him to speak to your heart. (if you are reading Dorothy's book because it's God inspired, I'm of the opinion you would be open to asking God for help)

I do believe the author is on the right track, but she is being selective about what is good and what is bad for you. Hence, my opinion that this IS "Dorothy's Diet", NOT "God's Diet". (Colossians 2:16,20-23 is a good reference point)

Summary: Thanks Dr. Dorothy
Review: I have the benefit of knowing "Dr. Dorothy" personally, as she is my doctor! Her pragmatic approach to health is well reflected in this book, and I recommend it highly. I only wish all of you out there had the benefit of also having access to Dr. Dorothy in her role as a family physician.

Follow her advice, and you're on the way to stress-free LIFETIME weight control and health management!

Review: I just finished reading this book and have to admit I was disapointed. I don't think the information in this book would actually help someone lose weight. sorry.

Summary: It Works!
Review: I recently purchased the book - God's Diet: A Short and Simple Way... I lost 20 pounds in two months. I am still on the "diet". I put that in quotations, because I don't consider it to be a diet, but a lifestyle change. People have commented on my weight loss every where I go. I have sold more copies of Dr. Dorothy's book than I can imagine. I loved the recipes and the case studies. My self esteem has gone through the roof, and it was all very easy. It makes great sense to eat this way. Thanks, Dr. Dorothy!
