Rating: Summary: highly informative & motivating Review: although i have gone through a lamaze class and had natural childbirth with my first-born, i still found this book very informative and useful. the book advocates natural, medicine-free childbirth, but it also thoroughly discusses all other possible complications that could come up and interventions that might be necessary during childbirth. this is very reassuring to the pregnant woman because she will not be taken by surprise and overwhelmed by all her choices during labor. it has photographs of actual childbirths, including a caesarian, illustrations showing the various stages of labor, an exercise routine, etc. the various breathing techniques, relaxation methods, and other coping strategies are described in detail. definitely worth reading & highly recommended!

Rating: Summary: More frightening than useful. Review: Being a first time mother, I was looking for a book that would help me along with my Lamaze classes. This was not the book. The authors seem to be Gung-Ho anti-hospital with their critiques of the admitting processes of hospitals to the use of intravenous and medicines administered during childbirth. They concentrate on the risk of infection that can be contracted from standard hospital procedures to the point of paranoia. The authors attempt to make the reader more informed but just end up scaring them with all of the obstetrical textbook jargon. In a sense, it reads more like a 'Worst Case Scenario' handbook. Before reading, I was nervous about childbirth, even having heard a few horror stories from family members and friends, since I reading it, I have become absolutely frightened.

Rating: Summary: Lamaze - a whole world forbiden to the Romanian women Review: I am a journalist, and yet, I don't know whow to begin may article. You people ask me to rate your book and to make an article. It seems such an easy job for a jounalist, but the big problem is that your method is ignored by the Romanian future mothers. All I know about this outstanding method is what I have found out from the American movies, and believe me, it's not a great deal. Oh, right. I have rated the book with 5 stars because I have understood that it helps the future mothers to breath more easy and give birth more easy, but this is not enough. Why in the world don't you introduce this marvelous guide to the Romanian market. It would help a lot, you know? For example, I myself I am pregnant and I would realy like to read this book. But I can't find it in Romania and I don't have enough money to buy it elsewhere. I would apreciate a lot if one of you people would send me this book, and then, I would be more than proud to write about this book, even to do a mini-show, on air, about this book. I woner what the Romanian doctors know about this book that you apreciate so much. I hope that one of you will send me this book and give the Romania women the chance to enter this magnificent land of no pain and of easy birth. Thank you very much.By the way, my e-mail is beatrice@novatm.ro
Rating: Summary: Need to buy another one Review: I bought this book before the birth of my first child and found it so full of good information that I lent it to a friend... Now that I am expecting my second child, I am ordering another copy for myself. It was by far the most informative book I read about child birth.
Rating: Summary: Great book for information about birth! Review: I truly found this book to be very helpful in learning techniques to achieve a drug free labor and delivery! The book starts with pregnancy, guides you through labor, delivery, and ends with the post-partum period. It is so thorough. I read this with my second baby and found it very educational. It is designed for any woman/couple who is trying for as natural a birth as possible. It teaches the traditional Lamaze breathing and visualization techniques in a way that even a novice with no "class" experience (like myself)will understand. There is a section dedicated to the labor partner, as well as sections on medications (if the mother feels it is necessary) and medication risks, as well as information on c-sections and forceps/vacuum assisted births. I highly advise reading this book if you are interested in trying for a natural birth experience.

Rating: Summary: Need to buy another one Review: My wife and I are extreme information hounds (much to the suprise and occasionaly annoyance of doctors and hospital staff who are used to the usual uninformed masses). We have researched many childbirthing books including those somewhat opposed to the Lamaze method. But this book set the record strait and proved itself in its comprehensiveness and generally satisfied our demanding desire for knowledge. I can't say that the book contains the absolute answer for every imaginable question, but it does provide a comprehensive and reasonable foundation for what Lamaze really stands for in all its nuances. I'm somehow suprised that more soon-to-be mothers out there don't want to read more about what is going to take place to them. Information is key to understanding, security and a sense of control. This pook provides alot of that. We looked at a lot of good books on childbirthing. This is probably the only one we would actually recommend.
