Summary: Lacking in substance
Review: I was quite disappointed in the book, finding it lacking in substance. It is full of cliches and platitudes and offers very little practical information and advice. The author repeatedly advises giving children fast food and putting them in front of the television without concern for the consequences. She also instructs stressed-out mothers to go to spas and get massages--I guess she can afford them. The writer is a "motivational speaker" so that gives a clue as to the depth of the content. It's about as informative as a greeting card, really. I found THE COMPLETE SINGLE MOTHER much more worth reading.

Summary: GOOD READING
Review: This is an easy-to-follow and uplifting book for any single parent, be they a mom or dad. Good insight and encouragement.

Summary: Validation finally!
Review: I rocked my 13 month old son furiously last night in a vain frustrated effort to get him to sleep and read this book in the opposite arm in one sitting. I've been so lonely, tired, frustrated, guilty, ecstatic, and euphoric these past months all by myself and have been ready to burst if I didn't find another woman living in my area in my situation. Married mothers constantly tell me "oh, I'm just like a single mom too" and I rage inside knowing they have no idea. Thanks Patrice for feeling like a lifelong friend to me. Thanks for making me laugh out loud, and for hugging me, and for assuring me that it really is a blessing of a situation I'm in with my son. He is a daily miracle and I really am holding my head up prouder today. I even used the "single mom discount" request today!!!

Summary: A Funny Sensitive Short Guide to Single Motherhood
Review: This book is wonderful! It came at a perfect time in my life just recently as my husband filed for divorce after 13 years of marriage and 2 children ages 3 yrs and 5 months. This divorce was unexpected and pulled the rug out from under my world. Patrice's sense of humor and compassion were evident in this book, and it helped make me ready to face the future with a more positive outlook. I liked the section on the single mother discount. It will be interesting to see the expressions on people's faces when I ask! I also enjoyed the different ways to Say NO section. Very funny! Patrice writes in a very personable manner as if she is talking only to you. Well organized and concise!

Summary: A must for single mothers
Review: This book is teriffic. It is funny and insightful. It is also short enough that anybody can find time to read it again and again any time you need a little lift. Patrice tells it like it is while reminding us that it is OK to feed you children fast food in a pinch. (They will survive). She makes a point to remind us that we are doing the work of two people by ourselves and gives us great pep talks all through the book. A must for every single momma.

Summary: the single mother's survival guide
Review: finally, a book that doesn't make you feel bad for wanting to feed your kid a happy meal and forget your a mom for about 15mins. until they spill the darn sprite on your carpet. the book was funny and made light of some subjects that you can take serously, i think anyone who needs a pick me up and smile can benefit from this book. lord knows we can all use the a single mom discount(which she told us about, and it works) as long as you bat your eyelashes and look desparate. this book is great and i will read over and over again. also if you e-mail her she does respond back. which is nice to know she cares. patrice keep up the good work and man i love your book.

Summary: Not too impressed...
Review: As a woman who made a conscious decision to become a single parent, I found this book very elementary. It did not give me any solid, new information about how to get by on a day to day basis. I think it would be much more helpful for those who find themselves single parents and are not happy about it. It was nicely written and I got a kick out of a few sections. I could have gotten enough out of it by skimming through in a book store.

Summary: Real life, real wit, really fun
Review: I really enjoyed this book. It was written by a real Mom who has a real life with real struggles! I enjoyed her humor and the fact she was not trying to hide her "bad" days. I loved the easy writing style...as any book a single Mom of four needs has to be easy to pick up and put down and then be picked up again! I think it was very nuturing....and I needed it!

Nurse and Mom of four!

Summary: She's my hero you'll love her too
Review: This book was the most helpful book I've ever read. It's a quick read that you will refer to over and over again! It gave me hope and comfort in a time when I felt so lonely. Single parenthood is hard but it's also a blessing that Patrice is so good at helping you realize. She adds some humor to your life and lets you know that you are not alone. Read this book and give it to a single mother you know. It might just save her life!
