Rating: Summary: Good info on prenatal fluoride Review: The nutrient most couples know the least about and need the most is fluoride. Many children still get cavities, yet no one seems to act like fluoride deficiency is still common. Somer's book tells you about fluoride, and cites studies by the best experts (Drs. Glenn). Good luck with your pregnancy. Ray
Rating: Summary: Good information, not so good meal plans Review: There is a wealth of really useful information about food in this book. Unfortunately, I find the meal plans in this book too unrealisitc for my lifestyle. I cherish the book for the rest of its contents, though!

Rating: Summary: Great recipes Review: This book had a lot of useful information about what was going on with my body and what to eat but the recipies in the back of the book alone make this book worth buying. The only thing it did not help me with was to recongnize when something was wrong with the baby. I lost my baby at 11 weeks but nothing I read in any of my books clued me into the warning signs that something had gone wrong.
Rating: Summary: Every pregnant woman should have this one! Review: This book is outstanding. The book is very thorough. It explains what foods are safe and what isn't, tells you how much you need each day of what, and provides an entire month's worth of daily menus that include breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks.
It also provides recipes for the items in the sample menus, every recipe I have made has been absolutely delicious and even received rave reviews from my junk-food loving husband.
There are two things I've been craving for, this book & a nice cup of s o y f e e. You brew just like coffee and NO CAFFEINE! I can't believe it's made from so ybeans cause it taste just like coffee. Look for it online at ww.s o y coffee.com. Like the book, a great find!
We are both very pleased. I would HIGHLY recommmend this book to any couple who is expecting or planning to get pregnant. Thanks.
Rating: Summary: Out-of-date... Review: Though there is useful information about the nutrients in different food groups, I got this book at the same time as a "mayo clinic on healthy weight" and the differences were striking. Somer appears to base a lot of nutritional advice on the US RDA and "old school" food pyramid, which has been subject to lobbying by farmers and large food corporations rather than sound medical advice, and the latest research by health-based, rather than profit-biased, scientists.
Also, the author tends to leave the subject matter and speak on other pregnancy health issues. Since this wouldn't have been the only book I buy to learn about my pregnancy, much of the information was redundant and less well-informed than books that make overall pregnancy health their goal.
If you'd like something more concise, I'd recommend "Eating for Pregnancy - an essential guide to nutrition for the whole family" which has a shorter section on nutrients and their use for the baby, then a whole slew of recipes with their nutritional content. Then for the overall pregnancy health to fill in the gaps, "Mayo Clinic guide to a healthy pregnancy", with medical advice and information about the baby's development at each 4 week segment.
