Rating: Summary: I'm very happy with this name book Review: I like how all the names are listed alphabetically and not divided by sex. To me, it just seems to take longer to go through names when they're divided. With this book, you have one set of "A" names instead of two, etc. Another thing I like is that there isn't an overwhelming amount of alternate spelling and nickname suggestions. The Name Book is from an interdenominational Christian perspective and includes Bible verses from various Bible translations (each abbreviated). There are also lists in the back of female and male Biblical names. Even if you're not Christian and are simply looking for a name, don't pass this resource up.

Rating: Summary: This is a book full of errors. Review: I purchased this book in the hopes that it would provide an accurate account of names in respect to their meaning as well as a Christian perspective which is the audiance the writers were attempting to reach. What I found is a book with little more meaning than the biblical scriptures. It is full of errors. Particularily, the Norse names it mentions. The name Thor was named after a mythological god in pre-christian times and dates back to the Viking era in Scandinavia. The day of the week Thursday was named after this mythological God. This is a part of history that was not mentioned. Also, the name Belinda was not only a Spanish name but dates back to the 17th century in the Northern Europeon times. This name means dragon-like in Old-German. This book is only of value in its reference to the scriptures the writer provided. Nothing more.
Rating: Summary: Very Handy Reference Review: I use this incredible book when creating custom "Personalized Acrostic Name Blessings" as gifts for just about every occassion, and also in ministry, through my publishing company, Chalfont House. I love that a theme verse is suggested to mesh with the meaning of the name. Or, if the meaning of the name is less than wonderful, an alternate "spiritual connotation" is suggested too. This allows me to help people feel better about their name. For example, I can change "Mary" which literally means "Bitterness" into "Blessed". I like the listing of alternate name spellings, and that the names are all alphabetical instead of by gender. This is a great resource!

Rating: Summary: The Confusing Name Book Review: I was surprised when I saw that the book was not seperated by gender. Everyone I know works on seperate lists one for boys and one for girls. Having all the names together is confusing. What if you know the sex of your baby? Know your stuck having to sift through all 10,000 plus names. I would not recommend this book.

Rating: Summary: Looking for a name Review: It's no rally easy to find a name for a baby, because you don'n know how he or she are. I mind about her /his personality; so this book can help so many parents that want to get an original and significant name for their babys. Because be original is another thing, most of the new parents don't want to call their babys as their cousins or their nephews or nieces. Then this book will be a good answer for them.

Rating: Summary: Not as good as I had hoped. Review: The book is a Christian-based named book. With each name, there is a one or two word "Inherent meaning," to the name and a one or two word "Spiritual Connotation," and then a bible verse that relates to the meaning. I was hoping there would be more explanation of the names. This was also not the book I meant to order. There is another book with the same title by Pierre Le Rouzic. Although it's a Christian book, there is a wide variety of names from all cultures that are not Bible-based names.
