Summary: Hidden Keys to a Loving and Lasting Marriage
Review: A few months ago my wife and I were having some troubles. I was at my best friends house talking about it when he handed me a book called "The Joy of Committed Love." I explained to him that no man would be caught reading a book with that title and he said..."Just open it to the flaged page showing 122 ways that men offend their wives. I read through 50 of them and put the book down...I had done all 50! I picked the book back up and read the last 72...I had done all of them as well! I borrowed the book and read it cover to cover on a business trip, and have been trying to buy my own copy since. "The Joy of Committed Love" has been reprinted as "The Hidden Keys to a Loving and Lasting Marriage." Just as soon as I type my last period I am placing an order for 3 more copies. Nothing in life is guaranteed...but this book worked for me...and now my wife and I could not be happier. If you care about your current relationship...or your next...Buy This Book!

Summary: Common Sense Meets Understanding In Relationships
Review: As a pre-marital counselor this book is required reading for all our betrothed couples. Having read this book a few years ago, I can testify to the effectiveness of living according to the principles Mr. Smalley has outlined so engagingly in it's pages. My marriage couldn't be better (Well I'm sure it always could, but it's better than it's ever been before!), since applying all the understanding of the do's and dont's in relating lovingly to my spouse. Run to get this one folks!!!

Summary: two books in one
Review: I enjoyed reading this - I'm male, and it made me more sensitive to some things I didn't know about women and relationships. If you order from Amazon, realize that this is two books in one. Gary Smalley actually wrote two books about relationship problems. "If only he knew" was written for men, and "For better or best" is written for women. The two books discuss similar topics, but with a little different slant. They are combined in this volume. So if you purchase this, you shouldn't need to purchase either of the other two.

Summary: This book was eye opening
Review: Me and my wife have just recently seperated. This book really open me up to what I had been doing wrong and what I had not been doing. There is hope for marriages. If their were only more people out there trying to help.I dont know if me and my wife will reconcile, but I've learned alot.

Summary: Excuses, excuses!
Review: This book has an underlying negative view of relationships. It might be good for couples in very traditional relationships that are beginning to learn how to create something different. However, for the most part this book emphasizes gender differences and uses them as an excuse for why relationships are not fulfilling. The recommendations are either very simplistic...or manipulative. None seemed to be productive or long-lasting solutions. I bought "The 5 Languages of Love" by Gary Chapman at the same time as this book, and found it to be extremely helpful and productive. (My boyfriend even enjoyed it too!)

Summary: Very sexist
Review: This book is written by a OLD man. His views express a time when life was good for men and hard for women. If the traditional marriage was such a nifty niche for women, then why aren't they still there? This book will only be satisying to men and the elderly. You will see alot more of these types of books in the future as men desperately try to hang on to the oppressively patriarchal society they created with their might makes right world order . As you can see, it's backfiring.

Summary: One of the very best how-to marriage books I've read
Review: This is an excellent resource for applying great marriage principles into marriage. These ideas are real marriage enhancers that can help anyone, whether the marriage is on the rocks or doing ok. I can agree with most theories on marriage, but this book gives actual hands-on advice that will transform your marriage

Summary: I Understand Where My Husband Is Coming From...
Review: This is the book that got my husband and I back on the same page in our relationship. We had become just parents, nothing more. Although it has a Christian spin, the author doesn't try to sugar coat the dealings that go on b/t a man and a woman. He gives it to you straight. My husband said he was dead on in the section that tells the wife how the husband is feeling. But what amazed me is how on point he was about the woman's point of view. It was downright scary. Best of all, my husband "got it". Something I couldn't get accross verbally or he stopped listening to me. Whatever. Get this book if you are about to give up on your relationship and just ask you partner to read the chapters on your point of view. You will open the doors of communication. Wonderful insightful work

Summary: It really does help you into the door of your mate's heart!
Review: What a terrific book. For those of you women or men trying to get through the difficult struggles of marriage, this book can really help. It is perfect for those women who always buy these marriage books for their spouses to read and find them gathering dust on a table somewhere. This book will capture the interest of you and your husband. Gary Smalley is outstanding at identifying how to really become a godly husband or wife, and how to encourage your mate to as well. It has really made a difference in my marriage.
