Summary: Insightful book by Dr. Farrell
Review: "Father and Child Reunion", by Warren Farrell, Ph.D., is an outstanding book, packed full of insightful statistics, examples, and citations. The direct way in which Farrell cuts to the heart of complex problems is inspiring.

Although "Father and Child Reunion" is not intended to be a reference book, it could easily serve as one. The book is meticulously researched, with almost five hundred footnotes. Dr. Farrell has carefully documented his subject in great detail, with a voluminous amount of supporting data.

It should be stressed, however, that this is not one of those dreary tomes that one has to wade through, fighting off sleep while searching for the 'good stuff'. On the contrary, it is a thoroughly enjoyable book that moves right along with the aid of a great deal of interesting material gathered by Farrell. The 'good stuff' isn't hidden; it jumps out at you from nearly every paragraph.

Farrell provides a number of illuminating explanations for some of the most common (and persistent) misconceptions regarding divorce, custody, and fatherhood. His careful dissection of the issues leaves little to chance- every facet is closely examined and laid bare.

Step-by-step, Farrell shows how fathers can be systematically removed from their children's lives, through the 'well-meaning' efforts of courts, social perceptions, and government offices. These things provide the tools, motives, and methods that permit fathers to be treated as second-class citizens in divorce and custody matters.

Farrell touches on a key point, something called the "presumption of perversion". This is a recent social attitude wherein all men are viewed with suspicion, and are thought not to be trusted around children because of their (presumed) proclivity to molest. Farrell states it succinctly when he says that in the space of a decade or two, we've gone from "Father Knows Best" to "Father Molests". This unconscious social misperception contributes to (and may well indeed be responsible for) many of the current prevailing anti-father attitudes in society.

Farrell also skillfully explains what appear to be some contradictory statements. For example, he shows beyond a shadow of a doubt that children fare better when they live with single fathers than they do when they live with single mothers, yet he also states that fathers aren't better parents than mothers. How can this be? Farrell explains how both of these statements are true, and why they are, in fact, not contradictory.

Warren Farrell discusses sex abuse charges in a way that makes some seemingly incomprehensible incidents understandable. Farrell gives a credible explanation of what likely causes a certain number of the spurious charges of abuse that appear during divorce situations, charges that have no foundation in truth.

"Father and Child Reunion" is a book that should be required reading for every judge, GAL, evaluator, attorney, and social worker. The insights and knowledge gained would be invaluable, and would without a doubt change the way justice is dispensed in family court.

Erin Pizzey, who opened the first shelter in the world for battered women, comments on Farrell's book, saying "this time he has surpassed himself and written 'the bible of fatherhood.'" We agree. Simply put, "Father and Child Reunion" is a 'must read'...

Summary: Retro Theory Supports Male Superiority
Review: A hundred years ago and more, women were chattel and forced to live with philandering and/or abusive husbands who changed mistresses at will and produced children out of wedlock at every opportunity. All to stay under the same roof with their children.

Farrell's "theory" supports the concept that fathers are, by virtue of being men, the superior parent. Mothers can be exiled from the family home with little or no support although they often give up jobs and careers to be the "at home" caregiver. Dad gets tired of Mom and sends her packing?

No doubt, fathers should be involved with their children. As Farrell points out both parents have much to give to the upbringing of a child.

However, this book isn't progress but Neanderthal thinking. It is enough to make any woman a feminist just to protect her rights as a parent. No wonder most of the people who wrote rave reviews were men!

Review: AN IMPORTANT BOOK FOR FATHERS! As a "second wife" I have read many books on dads and divorce, and this is one of the best. Easy to read, thought-provoking, and well researched. I have given copies to lawyers, legistators, judges - and recommend to all fathers.

This book is especially important for fathers who may be facing a divorce. Get educated, read this book and others - prepare yourself and protect your children!

Summary: Excellent!!!
Review: As any alcoholic learns in AA meetings, acknowledging the truth is the first step toward recovery. Socially speaking, books like this may be our only hope for getting us out of the denial we are in. Farrell gives us the harsh realities, then provides the inspiration to overcome the core problem of fatherlessness. It is time we face up to it. The vast majority of violent criminals are males who grew up without fathers. In fact, fatherlessness is the best predictor of crime in a community. This does not mean single women do not make great parents. But it does mean we had better address the taboo subject of fatherlessness and work toward solutions. As far as anything I have seen, this book does it best. Many other books attempt to provide inspiration without first giving the whole truth - and that only brings false security. Farrell's straightforward and balanced approach gives us all a dose of reality without attacking anyone, and then provides an insightful message for everyone - mothers, fathers and children - that there is hope. After reading this book, I realize why so many prominant professionals, as well as two former NOW presidents, endorsed it. It's content is absolutely critical.

Summary: Warren Farrel does it again
Review: Dr. Farrell has done it again. He has been able to put into writing what I, and many other men, have known but have not had an outlet to express. That men are victims of overwhelming gender discrimination. And, in this book, he clearly documents how it's hurting both our children and our society. To paraphrase Harry Trumen, you can't keep one group of people in the gutter with out staying there yourself. Gender discrimination against men has kept, and will continue to keep, all of us in the gutter until we recognize it and stop it. Now is the time to stop it. Let's remove the road blocks to fathers getting custody of their children, to men staying home to raise the kids, to making sure we have more male teachers at the elementry school level, to our recognition that men are equally the victims of domestic violence, etc. My hat is off to Dr. Farrell for another excellent job well done.

Summary: Is there no one else who cares?
Review: During the past 20 or so yrs. I have noticed how that the Equal Rights activity has more or less been nothing more than a title to call the hatred that women have for men, because of the boredom that we all have in our everyday rutty lives. They seem to think that they are the only ones who are bored with the 'way things are', with everyday jobs, tasks, etc. This book tries to make sense of the chaos of the aftermath of this and other subjects pertaining to the way that these people get the laws passed in 'their favor', not the favor of justice. Is there anybody else out there who really cares - besides authors like this one?
