Summary: Bringing Harmony to the Home
Review: "The goal of discipline is a warm, harmonious relationship with our children." That statement alone has altered my perspective of how parenting ought to look and has freed me from forever trying to control my son (and losing my mind--and temper). Steve has helped teach me how to go after what really matters--my child's heart; his attitude. I am learning how to stay connected with my son through the conflict and to celebrate together when his heart is right, when harmony is restored. I can't imagine trying to do it any other way now.

Summary: Good enough for a Government giveaway!
Review: As a conservative, I'm not much for government doing much of anything. However, if the government actually wants to do something worthwhile, it could give this book to every new parent. And give Gary Smalley's book "If Only He Knew" to every new husband. This would do more good than almost anything else.

Summary: A book to read if you love your children.
Review: As a single mom, with too much to do and too little time for it all, I needed good advice on how to raise children with integrity, honesty and other desirable character qualities, in spite of their being raised in a single-parent home. This book has given me firm guidance and the results are: happier children who respect their parents, teachers, and peers. Following Steve's suggestions are not all fun and games, it's hard work, and sometimes a little scary but the results are phenomenal! I especially appreciate Steve's sense of humor and personal stories throughout the book, which make for easy reading. So Steve, when are you going to write your next book!?!!

Summary: A book of useful techniques to raise respectful children
Review: Steve Sherbondy presents practical, immediately useful ideas for raising children that respect their parents and God. I began using the techniques before I finfished the book. His word-for-word examples serve as excellent illustrations. Thank you Steve!

Summary: A book about the love and work to help your child grow
Review: Steve Sherbondy.....Marry me......oh I see you already are.....Your book was a wonderful inspiration to me. This books helps the above average parent take back control to helping our kids grow into beautiful people. Just when you thought you had tried everything Steve shows us that there is a better way. Now if only I could get my exhusband to read this book I might be able to actually make a difference.....Thank you so much for your efforts. But most important, for sharing them with us..Have you written any books on how to combat the desruction of ex spouses on children....any suggestion would be greatly appreciated...

Summary: Better because it is specific and original
Review: There are other people who are doing the same sort of thing Steve Sherbondy does -- James Dobson, Gary Smalley and John Rosemond. While they all have good ideas (go ahead and read their books) but none is specific, and many a clueless parent needs to start with a script, showing EXACTLY what to say and do in specific situations. Steve gives you the script. He alone seems to consider what to do next when the last brilliant discipline idea just didn't work. And besides having experience with his family and children of clients as the others do, he has worked with some hardcore delinquents as a houseparent. There is is philosophical and scriptural discussion as you might expect but the core is practical step by step instruction in how instill a right attitude.

Summary: Parents can learn unique disciplinary tools for children.
Review: This book is like no other parenting book you have ever read before. That is exactly why I wrote it. My friends and clients (I work as a counselor) would get excited about these unique child-rearing ideas and ask me where they could read more about it. I would have to tell them there wasn't a book out which discussed these ideas so they finally convinced me to write this book. I can safely guarantee that you will not find another book like it. You probably won't agree with everything I have to say (which is fine with me) but I know this book will make you think about how you discipline your children and why you do the things you do. There are several unique aspects to this book: --It helps you change a child's attitude and not just their behavior. --It will give you some very practical tools to use in training your child to cooperate with you...even when they don't "feel like it". --I talk about why I don't recommend the common disciplinary tools of "taking away privileges, grounding, time-outs, yelling, or spanking". (I do have a chapter on spanking which outlines the rare occasions to use that tool.) --It illustrates how to restore the relationship after disciplining a child. --It helps you feel confident with the challenge of taming your child's willfulness and shaping their character without turning it into World War III. --These tools are useful from toddlers to teenagers. --I use real life examples from my own experience as a parent, a houseparent for teenagers, and a counselor to parents. --For those who are interested, it also includes biblical principles (without sounding preachy) which undergird the thinking and heart (no pun intended) of this book. I could go on, but I think you get the idea that I think you and your children will both benefit from the ideas presented in this book. I welcome your comments: Sherbondy@juno.com.

Summary: Can't Recommend This Book Highly Enough
Review: This book is so head-and-shoulders above all the rest, that I would call it virtually the ONLY helpful child-rearing book I've ever read (and I've read more child-rearing books than anyone else I've ever met). Most current child-rearing books and classes teach this namby-pamby "better communication," "love them more" stuff, which for most of us was never our problem in the first place, and it doesn't even touch the heart of the issue. This book teaches that our children's ATTITUDE is the most important issue. It gives a progression of tools for dealing with their attitudes, from setting expectations, to logical consequences, to assigning work, and more. It gets to a sort of "tough love for younger ages" approach, which is what so many of the shockingly rude and spoiled children in our present society (and their misled, abused parents) need so desperately. I can't recommend this book highly enough!
