Summary: An awesome book...a must have!
Review: This book is great. It describes all of the medical jargon associated with various illnesses including advanced, hard to understand, diseases. Since buying it, I've used the book to understand various conditions including one that my mother recently developed. It's very up to date in describing medical science's understanding of various illnesses, and it provides a solid foundation upon which you can start doing more research on the web for the condition that you may be interested in finding about. A note in the book says that it is produced by Merck & Co. on a non-for-profit basis. An online version of the book is available at the Merck website.

Summary: Excellent Medical Information Source For Every Home !
Review: This hardbound 1,509 page authoritative health care encyclopedia will serve you well. Designed for home use, it covers every major medical/health care topic. Complete table of contents, and well indexed (over 11,000 entries) to make finding the information easy. Major topics range from Anatomy, Drugs, Bone, Joint and Muscle Disorders to Disorders of Skin, Eyes, Immune System, and Children's Health Issues. Many informative tables are provided. You'll find clear, easy to understand answers to most of your health questions. Even though I am a health professional and have access to the standard Merck Manual, I keep this volume at home for ready reference and refer to it often. Well worth the price. There are many books on the market about health care topics, but this one IS AUTHORITATIVE !

Summary: DEFINITELY, A KEEPER!
Review: This is a "must have" for every household or family. I have consulted this book countless times to explain a rash, a pain, an allergic reaction, before calling the doctor. The book clearly defines the body with illustrations and precisely written text. Become more knowledgeable about prescribed medications, tests, procedures. Suggested temporary remedies take the anxiety out of your experience, and puts you in charge of your body and how you are treated by the medical profession.Definitely a keeper, read this book and place it right next to the family medicine chest or bible.

Summary: Great text, but incomplete index
Review: This is a great book full of information. The biggest problem is the index. Many things I look for aren't there. For instance: "bone spurs", viral rash", and "disecting aneurysm", although the term is used in the text.

Summary: A BOOK FOR MY PATIENTS , I RECOMMENDED TO BUY IT
Review: THIS IS A VERY GOOD BOOK FOR THE NON-MEDICAL READER, AND A REAL SOURCE OF INFORMATION FOR THE FAMILY, IT HELPS THE DOCTOR TO MAKE EASY TO UNDERSTAND FOR THE PACIENTS, WHAT THEY ARE SICK OF, OR WHAT IS GOING WRONG IN SOME ONE IN THE FAMILY.

Summary: A Book Everybody Should Have Around!
Review: This is a wonderful summary of general medical information written in simple terms so this is a great addition to the family. It is very current in describing medical understanding of a variety of illnesses, and it provides a solid foundation upon which you can start doing more research on the Internet for the condition that you may be interested in finding about. It even suggests temporary remedies and puts you in charge of how you are treated by the medical profession. This is a must have book to keep around!

Summary: Comprehensive in easy to understand language
Review: This is the most comprehensive guide to health related issues available on the market. There is a more authorative edition of the Merck Manual, but at 1700 pages this edition will keep you occupied. It covers the broad range of illnesses with handy diagnoses. But, what I like most is the children's section, which not only fills you on all the ailments that plague little ones, but the vast array of problems that can occur during pregnancy. While much of this information may provide more anxiety than assurance, it is worth knowing, especially if going through the experience of child birth for the first time. The children's section also has good information on health and nutrition. It quite literally covers the gamut of health related issues and no home should be without it. But, don't get carried away with self-diagnoses It can be frightening!

Summary: We need this book in U.S. Army green!
Review: This is the world-class standard in a pocket medical care reference. Its quite a load in your rucksack---wish it was in a green cover and with some info optimized for U.S. Army SF 18D, 91B Medics and Combat Life Savers. They should issue this book to all students at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. We should read this book thoroughly and insure one is carried inside each HMMWV ambulance for better "tail gate" medical coverage of Soldiers.

Medic!

Summary: The best medical manual in the market
Review: This manual has been an excellent addition to our family library, it has a lot of information that usually you can only find it surfing the web. Is not only useful for physicians, it is also useful for normal people who are interested on how to take care of your family in case they are attacked by a disease.

Very reccomendable.
