As a marathoner, this philosophy appealed to me. But the "maternal fitness routine" takes ninety minutes. As a wife and working woman, I don't have a spare ninety minutes each day for all of these little lifts and squeezes and muscle contractions. Tupler's basic moves are good, and I do the kegels and abdominal holds every day at my desk. But I've had to abandon the "routine" in favor of my own half hour of daily exercise.

Review: A woman's birth experience is a moment in time she will never forget! That is why it is so important to have both a mind and body preparation. My company tracks the birth outcomes of our clients. We have found after training over 3000 clients, that our clients have a lower c-section and episiotomy rate as well as push more effectively in labor. Most of our clients come from doctor referrals! I recently did labor support for a client who had done the Tupler Technique abdominal exercises her whole pregnancy. Everyone knew I was at the hospital because everytime she pushed she said JU.....LIE! I was astonished to see how strong her abdominals were and thus the effectiveness of her pushing. Seeing it first hand really made me a believer! She knew how to push back with her abdominals while relaxing her pelvic floor muscles. That is why it is so important to have the transverse abdominal muscle be your best friend during and after pregnancy! Strong abdoiminals will prevent back problems during and after pregnancy as well as help you push better in labor. The seated transverse abdominal muscle exercises can be incorporated into your daily activities. One set of 100 takes no more than 2 minutes! So 500 per day, according to my math, will take 10 minutes. They can be done while you are driving, watching television or at your desk at work. Strong abdomininals and practicing pushing are the key to preparing for the marathon of labor! I moved to New York not knowing a soul! After 10 years of working exclusively with pregnant women and new moms, I now know lots of women! I love when my clients see me on the street and show off their abdominals. I am sure people in automobiles wonder..... who is this woman in white and why do these women show off their abdoiminals when they see her? They do this because they are proud of their abdominal muscles! They are usually back in their jeans 6 weeks after delivery! Hope this book empowers you during your pregnancy and birth. Reproductively Yours....Julie Tupler,RN

I'd been doing yoga for several years prior to my pregnancy but felt that my normal classes lacked the additional information I needed about how to effectively use my body during pregnancy and labor and how to apply everything I've learned from yoga to labor. I was surprised and then grateful to find that many of the exercises in the book are similar to yoga, but Julie Tupler builds on the similarities and takes them a step further, without ever referring to yoga. She helps you understand and prepare for how you will be using your body during labor and gives helpful information about birthing positions, episiotomies, breathing, relaxation, and "pushing." I'm 6 weeks away from my due date, so I can't say how effective her method will be, but it's given me peace of mind that I can get through the process of labor and opened my mind to an unmedicated birth. I feel like the book provided me exactly what I was looking for in terms of an exercise routine combined with mental preparation.

Mentally it prepared me for the true marathon of labor by building my self confidence and inner strength. Physically, it tightened my abs and taught me some great exercises/streches that I could even do in the car while driving to work. It disciplined me both before, during and after labor to focus on my body and stay fit. I will review it again now that I am expecting my second.

Review: I did these exercises throughout my second pregnancy and, after nine easy hours of labor, was able to push the baby out in minutes. (With the first baby, I had 56 hours of labor and 2 1/2 hours of pushing.) The techniques work with an epidural. I had total control of my abdominal muscles but no pain. Glorious!

The order came rather quickly and the book is in excellent condition. I like what I see in this book. This is just what I was looking for! The exercises and stretches are explained in a simple manner and there are illustrations which also guide you to make sure you are doing the exercises correctly. It is a good book for beginners. You will learn exercises to help strengthen your back, upper body, lower body and ABDOMINALS. The goal is to help you have a healthy pregnancy, efficient labor, and quick recovery. I'm glad to finally find a book that deals with strengthening the abdominal muscles CORRECTLY. Some books tell you not to work the abdominals at all during pregnancy, but how else are you going to push that baby out??? This book teaches you the correct way to safely strengthen them. Great book.
