Summary: This One's My Favorite
Review: If you're looking for a dictionary of baby names, there are about a zillion other books out there to choose from. But if you've already looked at the typical baby name lists and were left feeling uninspired, check out "Baby Names Now". The authors offer real world wisdom and advice about each name. Each entry is clever and funny. Their descriptions are often completely subjective, but that's what makes this book so much fun. It really gets you thinking about what you do or don't like and why. I recommend it to all expecting mothers and fathers!

Summary: Entertaining, but still too Hollywood obsessed
Review: The authors certainly revolutionized the name book field and parents should find this entertaining. For true help in choosing a name, though, I'd pick a good, old-fashioned name dictionary with 10,000 or more names, definitions and information about literary and movie references. I'm not sure why it matters so much to the authors of this book what various celebrities have named their children. The authors also show a lot of factual weaknesses in some entries. They write, for instance, that they've never heard of the name Jayden and assume that Will Smith and wife Jada Pinkett spun the name off the name Jada. Jadon is a name from the Bible, which they would have known if they had researched its history. It's listed as a Biblical name in various name dictionaries. Taina is, similarly, not a version of Tiana but an old Scandinavian name. Maria Shriver is NOT the daughter of a Kennedy mother and a "high WASP" father as stated in the entry under Maria in both this book and its previous version. Sargent Shriver came from a devout Catholic family. Whoever edited this book should have done a better job of fact-checking.

Summary: Buying this book was a mistake
Review: The selection of names were sparse and unsatisfying to say the least. The authors should have not have lingered on what the stars are naming their babies and concentrated more on a variety of names and derivations. My wife and I expected a lot more from these authors as parenting magazines make them out to be the end-all-be-all in names. Needless to say we will never buy a book from either of these authors again.

Summary: THIS IS A MUST-HAVE NAMING BOOK!
Review: There are literally thousands more names here than in Last Word -- I counted them! -- including hundreds you won't find ANYWHERE else. Plus these are the only name authors who give you up-to-the-minute info on popularity, trendiness, and popular culture references for EACH name. If you care about finding the very best name for your baby, you MUST have this book!!

Summary: They've done it again
Review: These authors never cease to amaze me. They consistently come up with fresh options and new ways of looking at names. I got my son's name (Tiernan) from their book BEYOND SHANNON & SEAN, and my daughter's (Teal) from BEYOND JENNIFER & JASON, MADISON & MONTANA. Looking through this new book, BABY NAMES NOW, almost makes me want to get pregnant again.

Summary: They could have just revised "Last Word on First Names".
Review: This book is a good update on "Last Word on First Names", and that is ALL it is. I don't think they should have released it as a whole new book. I mean, there are a few new names but they are wild and crazy and nobody would use them. Like "Trout" is listed. I mean, come on!
