Summary: So That's what they are for!
Review: I was given this book as a gift from the hospital I delivered at, when I got it I thought "how the hell will I find the time to read this with a newborn"?! But after I got home I found that It wasn't some long boring book that you had to prop you eyelids open to get thru it....it's easy to get thru it's pretty funny and i can read it while i am breastfeeding....I am gonna give it to anyone i know who is breastfeeding or who isnt considering it to hopefully change their minds.

Summary: Practical, humourous, informative
Review: This is a great book to read about breastfeeding. It is one of the easiest to read, because it doesn't read like a textbook. It is full of lots of good information and the author uses humor well. If you're thinking of reading it, DO!!

Summary: Relieved my doubts
Review: I am still pregnant upon writing this review, but this book has relieved my insecurities about breastfeeding. It uses humor and an easy, conversational style to address something that, while natural, is something new and a bit frightening. I've heard all the stories about people wanting to breastfeed, but that had problems with soreness, blisters, etc. After reading this book, I am confident that I can prevent these problems by simply getting the baby to latch on properly and breaking the suction with my little finger if they latch on to just my nipple (which is NOT how babies are supposed to latch on). I never would have known how to avoid common problems without this book.

It also addresses topics that new mothers might feel odd asking: husband jealousy, for example, and how to deal with a friends, family, and in-laws that disapprove of your decision to breastfeed.

Even if you ignore how informative this book is, I would recommend it just for the humor. I found myself quoting from the book to my family and close friends!

Summary: Is the world really that negative?
Review: At least75% of the book covers how doctors, nurses, hospitals, husbands, mothers, in-laws, friends, strangers, coworkers, and every other human being on the planet will attempt to sabotage your efforts to breastfeed. Maybe I am naive, but I think more people are at least aware of the benefits of breastfeeding now, and while I expect to get a few grumbles in public places, I hardly expect the full on assault she describes on nearly every page of the book. I am over 150 pages into the book, and so far there have been less than 10 pages that actually deal with breast feeding. Quite frankly, there was as much information and exactly the same information in the 4 page pamphlet I got from the hospital.

Summary: A humorous approach to the challenges of breastfeeding!
Review: Although this book may not offer much hands-on advice on how to nurse a newborn it accurately describes the trials, joys, and tribulations to trying to nurse and finally succeeding! Yes, the book tells you all the horrible stuff that is in baby formulas but hey, someone needs to point that out so that you have all the information. I read this book when my baby was 6 months old and I was still nursing. I found the book informative and helpful. It relieved stress by bringing humor to the subject. I recommend this book to any woman who is considering nursing her baby. Also, a great read for those who oppose nursing b/c it dispels alot of myths and misinformation about nursing.

Summary: This book is great!
Review: This is such a great book for pregnant moms. I wish I would have had it at the time my daughter was born. Many will say it is preachy, but I found it very informative. Chapters one and two will give you the origins of formula, which I found very interesting. I considered myself knowledgeable about many breastfeeding issues until I read this.

Summary: Phenomenal, A LifeSaver! She did her homework!
Review: Sooo funny, soooo warm, sooo well-researched. I wasn't sure about breast feeding, but Janet got me over my fears - and helped me through each stage. Sooo much better (in terms of sheer fun and readability) than anything else out there.

Summary: So That's What They're For!
Review: I bought this book thinking that it would be a helpful guide to breast feeding. It was anything but. It was the most redundant book that I have ever read, instead of giving any help the author went on and on about how good breast feeding is and how bad formula is, etc. The general idea of the book was to never feed formula. If you wanted to supplement with formula you might as well feed your child pioson. The statistics that she used were very biased.
I would not recommend this book at all and I feel like I wasted my money buying it and my time reading it.

Summary: Hilarious and touching
Review: Has all the information you need without being weighed down in jargon or technicalities.

If you're nervous about breastfeeding or haven't had much exposure this book will really help you feel more secure. After reading it I still plan to take a class with a lactation consultant but I'm thinking I may not get much more than a little "hands-on" out of that.

This book has a lot of great stories, especially the one about the La Leche League members teaching the gorilla how to breastfeed, it actually make me cry.

Summary: love this book
Review: As other reviewers have mentioned the many good points of this book, I'll just point out that it is natural for the author to have some bias against doctors and hospitals, as there are too many peds who think the answer to any bf'ing difficulty is "give the baby formula" and too many hospitals ignore the mother's wishes and give baby bottles and pacifiers. You have to be ready for this so you can be an advocate for your child. I also think she does a great job of preparing women for the fact that breastfeeding can be REALLY difficult and even in the best of circumstances is very frustrating in the early weeks. You need to know that it is normal for it to be difficult and frustrating and that help is available. By informing women of the detriments of artificial baby milk, and preparing them for the work and commitment needed to breastfeed (as well as the joys!), hopefully the author is helping more babies to receive their birthright (that is, as much breastmilk as possible.)
