Summary: Wishing I'd had this book 12 years ago!
Review: In the process of reviewing hundred of books for a new Adult Education Center library, I came across the Fussy Baby Book. It really ignited my interest and I spent the afternoon browsing through it. I could have sworn Dr. Sears was using my son as his study case! My husband and I eventually figured out on our own many of the things that are suggested in this book. What I would have given to have had this book 12 years ago! We would have had a much easier "go" of things. If you have a difficult, fussy baby, this is the book for you. It will save your sanity and help you have a much happier baby.

Summary: Read with Wisdom and Individual Application.
Review: In this book, the Sears acknowledge the difficulties you face, but show you how responsive parenting can turn these challenges into advantages for both you and your children. They demonstrate that despite tought beginnings, children develop wonderful sensitivity, confidence, trust, and other desirable qualities. In fact, they prove that difficult children can provide the most rewarding parenting experiences of all.

When reading this book, you will need to recognize that not all children are alike, and that you cannot take "carte blanche," the advice these folks give, because each child develops differently. If you do, you might get frustrated because the "formula" doesn't work. Read with wisdom, especially as it relates to your own child.

Summary: Well, Well...
Review: It seems the Searses *can* fool some of the people all of the time. After caving in to your baby's every whim as they suggest in their other books, is it any wonder she's become a demanding little hellion? No problem, say the Sears duo. We can fix what's wrong, to the tune of yet more $$$...quite a racket these two have going!

A piece of advice from one who's been there: Spare yourself both the 'high needs' diagnosis and the need to remedy it. Skip the Sears couple's other books.

Summary: what a relief
Review: Like so many of the other people who have posted reviews, reading this book was like reading a description of my son. It made me feel so much better just knowing that we weren't the only ones who'd ever had to deal with a baby who refused to be put down and who cried all the time. The sections on soothing baby and mother burnout were especially helpful, and now that I am focusing on being calmer (and knowing there's nothing physically wrong that I can fix) I believe my baby is calmer, too. I just can't recommend this book enough.

Summary: I wish I'd had this book 28 years ago
Review: My granddaughter was born almost one year ago, and as very hands-on grandmother caretaker I notice some similarities between this darling child and her high-need mother. I just want to tell all of you parents of high-need children that my high-need second (and LAST - imagine that!)child is now 28 years old and I couldn't be more pleased with how she has matured. Only by instinct did I give her the patience and attention she needed as a baby and toddler ( the teenage years were more of a challenge), but today she possessess all of the positive attributes Dr. Sears lists on page 30. HANG IN THERE - IT'S SO REWARDING!

Summary: Saved my baby's life!
Review: My son cried ALL the time. Nothing I did would calm him down, walking, rocking, nursing, bathing, singing, NOTHING. I was literally on the verge of abusing my infant! I called my local La Leche League leader and she recommended this book and even brought it to my house.

The one thing that really helped was understanding that the baby is trying to communicate with his cries, but when he cries all the time the mother doesn't tune into what he is asking for. I had to stop listening to his cries as my failure as a mother and once I did that, he was the happiest baby. We call him our Sunshine Kid. Dr. Sears is the best.

Summary: "How to turn a fussy baby into a wonderful child!"
Review: Our daughter was THE "poster child" for colicky, fussy babies. She had colic so severe [crying 10-12 hours a DAY for first 12 weeks!] that our Pediatrician told us "This isn't colic, she just has a bad disposition." [UGH - we don't use him any more needless to say - and the crying stopped abruptly at 12 weeks]. After the colic passed, she continued to be a VERY "hands on, high need" baby. She was quite a challenge to parent that first year.

Thank goodness I found this book! I can still remember the first time I read it - the sigh of relief that I wasn't alone and the wonder at all the great ideas and suggestions in the book. We put these suggestions to work in our parenting and followed Dr. Sears' advice to the letter. Now we have an angelic two year old - she's a joy to be around. She is now the easiest kid in the world to parent - the most easy going, friendly, and sweet kid you could imagine. Now my friends all say how lucky I am to have such an easy toddler! I think it is due in great part to Dr. William and Martha Sears and their wonderful insight and advice - their suggestions certainly worked for us!
