Summary: Without this book I would be insane!!!
Review: Peter Downey's colourful views were my savior throughout my wife's pregnancy. He let me know what to expect and when to expect it. I had very few surprises during this life experience because of the advice that I had taken on board after reading this book.

The book written from the Aussie male perspective was a refreshing change from the multitude of books out on the market being that most of them that are available are written clinically, from an American perspective and lack humour.

I loved this book from start to finish and so did my wife. This book truly saved my sanity as I am sure anxiety would have killed me during this period. Peter you are an absolute legend.

I almost named my child Peter Downey Segal (nah only kidding!). It was this book that warned me about doing such rash things.

It is an easy read. I knocked it over in a weekend and I have realised that I now have no fear of babies at all, so this book can change your whole perspective on life and pregnancy.

I cant wait to read the next book - Dads, Toddlers, and the Chicken Dance by Peter Downer, et al

Keep up the good work.

Summary: Waste of Money
Review: So You're Going to Be a Dad provides absolutely no added value and its "humor" is weak at best. Even when Downey tells his exaggerated "true" stories, they aren't funny. You can learn more, and hear funnier stories, by speaking to a friend or relative with a newborn in less than 30 minutes. This book is a complete waste of time and money.

Summary: Give this book to a friend BEFORE they are trying !!!
Review: This is a great book ... some of the humor is over the top ... as a not-yet-dad i did not know in many cases if this is still joke or fact ... but anyway .. a greta book .. i enjoyed it a lot .. but I wonder what if they would call it "so you PLAN on being a dad" ... i think this could wreak havoc ...

if you are a wife with a husband asking for baby 24/7 ... give him this book .. he might calm down ...

if you are a guy wanting to have a baby with your partner .. read this book before you start trying ..

this book .. as funny as it is ... came to me as a serious reality check !!! .. (By now I actually think diapers cannot be that bad .. but heck .. I am not a dad yet ,,, )

Give this book to first-baby crazy people and see how they react ...

Review: This is NOT a "guide," as the back cover suggests. It's an English teacher's attempt at comedy writing...cornball comedy. As in, If you love the TV show "Yes, Dear," this might be for you. The basic message is that dealing with a pregnant wife sucks, raising a baby sucks, but fatherhood has some nice benefits. Thanks, Dr. Spock. Consider this passage from the end of the book: "And now that you've almost finished this tome, I'll let you in on a little secret...Nothing can really prepare you for being a father. I hope you're not disappointed, but I had to put this earth-shattering statement at the end of the last chapter, otherwise you might not have read the book." I wish I'd read this page first, so I could have missed out on some of the half-truths and misinformation the author buries between half-assed jokes.

Summary: Great starter book, humorous and funny
Review: this was the first book I recieved as a gift when we found out that my wife was pregnant. the book looks at fatherhood in a great way, not to scare you but to start the guide. It prepped me for the more serious books that are out there on parenting, but to start sometimes you need a laugh to get going. I found it to be a easily read book with things that you always thought about but were afraid to ask. I would reccommend this as the first of many books to start
