Rating: Summary: great book, one flaw Review: I love, *love*, LOVE this book and am extremely pleased it was updated (and that I convinced our library to buy a copy of the new edition). Weston's advice is levelheaded and never condescending; I disagree that it is the "advice found in most teen magazines"; it most certainly is not! If it were, I would never have read the entire book! Regardless, I would just like to caution readers that her section on how-to-survive-high-school offers few realistic solutions. Read _Girltalk_ for everything else, but for advice on the boredom and frustration of high school, please, *please*, PLEASE read _The Teenage Liberation Handbook_. Just my two and a half cents, though.
Rating: Summary: A Necessity for All Girls! Review: I read this book's first edition as a 29 year old adult, and even I gathered some great advice from it, on handling friendships to all sorts of general life issues, as well as female-specific topics. I have a daughter, and I believe this book will be an indispensible guide for her to reference when she doesn't feel comfortable speaking to someone about questions she may have. The author's advice is solid and not condescending. She writes in a very personable and trusting manner, and the book is enjoyable to read. Buy it!
Rating: Summary: 'Girltalk' directs at what make girls wonder and ponder Review: I rolled off my bed one morning and peered at the looking glass in my room, and guess what I saw? A hideously textured face, graphically disgusting body shape, a flat clump of hair. And that's not the end of it. You bet all young girls go through the same ritual each morning, don't you? Well, at least that's what happened to me during my first few years of high school. What had I done except for whining each day about my genetically-determined hopeless physique? However, I remember reading 'Girltalk' and some related books when I was 15 years old. Carol Weston has offered me some of the most essential and practical skills in coping with my life --- from school to sex to relationships to friendships to family, and much more. Its content is the kind of stuff you'll read in an ordinary teen magazine --- only in a condensed manner. And there are these quizzes, tips, sharing of Weston's own diary clips... you name it. Of course this one book alone had not and would not have turned me into a saint overnight, but it has made its part in my development. If I have to criticize the book, it would be the lack of graphics (but I guess the text alone is good enough). Although 'Girltalk' may not be able to make a major twist in your life or mine, it is nonetheless a very useful handbook for girls like you who are going through the doubts and traumas of adolescence

Rating: Summary: SENSIBLE ADVICE FOR YOUNG LADIES Review: I was given the original version of this book at least 15 years ago and read it many times over!I am so happy to see that the book is still in print, available for me to give to my niece!Carol Weston did a fabulous job with writing this book and it will be passed on to my daughter.
Rating: Summary: This is a review of Girltalk by Carol Weston Review: I'm a 12 year old girl, and I loved the book Girltalk by Carol
Weston. Girltalk really makes sense to teenage girls. It talks
about everything: sex, drugs, money, families, and more. At
the end of every chapter, there's a letter section, where
Carol answers girls' letters and gives them advice.
Girltalk isn't a really nerdy book the way some teenage
advice books are. It doesn't tell you to do stuff nobody
who's actually a teenager would ever do, and
it's written in an upbeat, interesting way. It's funny a lot of times.
If you're a teenager, reading this book will make you feel normal. I think the best part is that Carol Weston includes
little bits from her diaries when she was a teenager, and it's cool to see what she wrote. There's not really a worst
part of this book, except that sometimes it gives advice
that's a little too old lady-ish. Mostly, though, I loved this book!

Rating: Summary: all that and a bag of DORITOS!!! Review: OH MY GOSH! I read this I think when I was 11 (14 now), and it was heaven. I even wrote a personal letter to carol and she answered it herself. It gave me answers about periods, sex, making money, college, your body: all the stuff gals my age were a little queezy about when it came to asking the 'rents. I recommend it to ANY girl out there who wants some serious, down-to-earth answers.
Rating: Summary: Girtalk: All the things Tara is telling you Review: Tara D Girltalk is one of the best books that I have ever read. There are so many different topics and subjects that almost any teenage girl can relate to in some way. The topics range from body and sex to friendship and education. In my opinion I think that the most interesting topic that there was, was the sex subject. Of course it is a subject that is going to be looked at a little more as a teenager but it was the statistics that really caught my eye. During the rape portion it literally scared me when I found out that 1out of every 4 girls will be raped in college. The fact that I will be going to college in a few years is a bit disturbing. It also gave details and tips on how to help yourself stay away from situations like that. It mentioned using the buddy system while going to parties and to walk to your car while holding your keys. It is the little things like that, that can change any situation for the better and help any teenage girl survive. Carol Weston was such an informative writer and the best part was that she didn't preach at all. This book was a gift given to me by my sister and I was really amazed that Carol talked to the reader like any normal person. Carol Weston used fabulous literary elements such as allusion. She used allusion when she was referring to her old high school and her neighborhood. She also used characters. Even though this book is a nonfiction, she still changed the names of the people mentioned in her book but used their real life personalities and descriptions. I gave this book 5 stars because it is very easy to get through, it's very informative and it is a great book to gain a lot of knowledge from and have under your belt.
