Rating: Summary: I've read better Review: Ask yourself this: Do you really want your 8 year old daughter reading about sex, rape, drugs, suicide, incest, and abuse? I most certainly don't want my daughter reading those things. And Carol Weston should start expanding her horizons and face the fact that just because SHE thinks something is "taboo" doesn't neccesserily mean it is. The only reason why it didn't get one star is because it's a good read if you're really bored.
Rating: Summary: Lifesaver Review: Carol Weston's GirlTalk helped and is still helping me through pubertiy. I'd recommened it to everyone who wants to know about love, sex, money, etc. so buy it. it's worth the money! trust me!
Rating: Summary: GREAT BOOK--but buy the fourth edition! Review: Don't get me wrong. I love this book and have even bought copies for friends. But Carol Weston just came out with the newest version--a fourth edition--so get the latest edition! She's also the Dear Carol columnist at Girls' Life and her website is carolweston.com.
I promise you'll love Girltalk... but why get Girltalk III when you can get Girltalk I? :-)
Rating: Summary: Stop talking Review: Everyone is always raving about how great this book is. All it did was make me feel uneasy and awkward. I definitly don't think 11 year olds should be reading this book. Letters from real people are published in this book about girls being raped, molested, attacked, etc. Of course, when I was 11 and if I read this book I'd be traumatized. I suppose it all depends on your daughter. (...) And after reading different books like this, I can tell you one thing: NEVER give ANY book your full trust. Different health books say different things. (...)
Rating: Summary: Great author, timeless book Review: I bet I am the oldest reviewer to post, at just three months shy of 26 -- I have a copy of GirlTalk that is at least 12 or 15 years old. I believe it is a first edition. My mom bought it for me when I was a pre-teen and it was my bible, my source of comfort, the one thing that helped me believe I wasn't completely alone when I was an angst-ridden teen. Parents and teens alike will benefit from owning a copy of GirlTalk.
Rating: Summary: I injoyed this book and recommend it to any teenage girls. Review: I enjoyed this book and recommend it to any teenage girl from the ages of 12 and up. I like the way that Carol Weston tells what happened to her and then explains to you how to solve it. I hope that Carol writes a nother book like GIRLTALK. If you read this you will to!
Rating: Summary: This book is a bible for teenage girls!! Review: I first received GIRLTALK when I was 13. Throughout my teen years, I would periodically consult it whenever I had a question or concern that I was unable to talk to my mom about. Unlike other books written for teenagers, this one is not preachy or condescending. I strongly recommend it for all young women who are coming of age.
Rating: Summary: An honest but caring examination of real issues Review: I have to take issue with the (few) people who say this book is too graphic for teens. First of all, it's not intended for 8 year olds! I gave this book to my neice when she was 12, with the permission of her mom, and they both found it to be a helpful, honest examination of issues that doesn't talk down to teens, but gives them useful advice that still emphasizes good values. You may want to pretend rape and molestation don't exist in our society (and they are a very small part of the book) but the fact is teens know about these issues (take a look at the evening news, listen to the radio or pick up any magazine!), worry about them, and may even have been affected by them directly--don't you want them to get good information rather than just what they hear from their peers? I'm a firm believer that education is the best prevention! The book is well-researched and in fact it is something you can trust. Sorry, but the world is not the same as when we were growing up, and we have to help prepare our daughters to deal with it. Carol's warm, friendly tone puts teens at ease and gives them the facts on all the things they may be too uncomfortable to ask their parents about. What more could you ask for?!
Rating: Summary: Thank you soooo much!!! Review: I LOVE this book! I got some of her other books a couple of years ago, but now I'm 14, and I like GIRLTALK because it talks about serious stuff in a funny and friendly way. It's great!! Everybody I have recommended it to likes it too.Michelle B.
