Summary: A Must Read for Every Mother
Review: Thank you Ms. Kenison for making me take a step back and remind me of all of the things that I have to be grateful for. I will never again take life, good or bad, for granted! I now choose to live in the moment and enjoy every moment of my life. Just by doing this I know that I can make a difference in my children's lives. Turn off the TV and sit down to read this wonderful book - you won't be able to put it down!

Summary: Outstanding!
Review: This "little" book is so full of big ideas for the busy mother. As a new mother of a 7 1/2 month old little boy, I found the suggestions breathtakingly simple, yet profound in their depth and intention. I would and do recommend this charming book to any parent who wants to bring a deeper meaning to their family life.

Summary: Full of Peace
Review: This book brought Peace back into my chaotic household. I have a one year old and two year old and I sometimes wonder how I will survive another day. This book made me appreciate all the little moments. I thought it was so wonderful that I bought multiple copies to give to my friends as gifts.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: I'd give this a 3.6 rating on a scale of 1 to 5
Review: This book has many beautiful components to it. The author shares hard-won lessons from her own life as a mother, wife, and an editor in a series of thoughtful essays. Certain insights-if you have peace in your home then you carry it into the world-will stay with me.
However, I also had trouble with this book. There seems to be little consideration for other ways, other paths to balancing or living a life. Some women have to work for economic reasons. Some women don't have the luxury of being able to maintain a relatively prestigious career from home. Some women want to work.
In addition, while certain solutions to a more peaceful, more balanced life may work for the author-no television, unstructured time for children during the summer, fewer lessons-they may not work for everyone. Without being too politically incorrect, television offers a lot of interesting and educational fare if you know where to look. Some children cherish their memories of summer camp. Some kids want all those lessons.
Finally, the author clearly has certain economic priviliges not shared by all. In addition, what about the mother of children with disabilities? I would hesitate giving this book to my friends with autistic or physically challenged children. They could never live this life due to the demands on their time.
While I admire the author for having the guts to formulate and propound a philosophy for family life, I also must say that I found her and her book a bit smug and self-satisfied with little thought for alternative ways to live.

Summary: Something so simple
Review: This book has such a basic message to all of us with children. Keep it simple. Ms. Kenison's style truly is a pleasure to read. I gave this book to my mom eventhough she has an "empty nest" now. I think it reminds us all that we don't have to be everything to everyone all the time. We don't have to do it all. Especially with a child, there is time. We will all get more out of an experience IF we are able to experience it. I include this book with all my baby gifts now.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Great book for all parents!
Review: This book is a refreshing look at how we can help our children (and ourselves!) by slowing the pace of their lives and ours and taking time to just enjoy each other. For those who may be thinking it is a "religious" book, you should know that the author admits in the book that her family has not been one to regularly attend church...and yet the book is about the "spirituality" of being a parent and filling the needs of the family. Anyone who is or ever will be a parent should read this book.

Summary: An Eloquent Reality Check
Review: This book is a sincere, heartfelt letter to modern-day mothers that quietly points out how easy it is to lose perspective of that which is most important: raising our children in a loving atmosphere of reverence. Sharing her own experiences, Katrina Kenison gives us access to many of her successes and struggles with her two sons. I have "borrowed" several of her methods (creating a "healing basket" to cater to boo-boos, taking deep breaths together to avoid unnecessary blow-ups, developing a relationship with the brownie that lives in our house, to name but a few) and look forward to implementing more. She is a gifted writer who is able to move back and forth with ease between anecdotes and observations while maintaining a connecting thread over whatever the chapter topic may be (check out the table of contents link to the left of your screen).

There are times, however, when I wondered what it must be like to live in her perfect household, where the TV is permanently off and the parents and children play their musical instruments together for family entertainment. And, perhaps I'm a little overly-sensitive, but at the very end, I perceived a bit of working-mom prejudice (though the author admits to working part-time, she is able to work out of her home during the hours her children are in school). For the most part, however, I found this book sweet without being too precious (despite the rather cutesy title) and I do plan to purchase gift copies for friends.
