Rating: Summary: This diet is impossible to follow! Review: I tried to follow this diet, but it was a losing battle. Youcan't have anything to eat but a few kinds of veggies (no broccoli, nopeppers, no carrots, no peas, etc.) and protein until your reward meal. I was miserable all day just waiting for that reward meal that ends up making you feel bloated and exhausted.
Rating: Summary: this diet is very difficult to follow Review: When I read the opening paragraph, the Hellers' words spoke to me. I realized that I was a carbo addict. The problem is that this diet did not help to cure my addiction! I was miserable on this diet and ended up gaining -- rather than losing -- weight. Not recommended.

Rating: Summary: horrible Review: I lost 10 pounds, and then they came back with reinforcements. don't get excited about the "reward meals", either.
Rating: Summary: support group Review: I just started reading this book and have been on the program for only two days. Im not a big fan of eggs and quiet frankly all that protein scares me. I love fruit and wish I could eat more fruit during the day. Today for breakfast I had cottage cheese with cucumbers. That hardly qualifies for a healthy breakfast but it is on the plan. My biggest disappiontment is with the beverages. I love milk and drink my 3 to 4 glasses a day and now I can only have milk with my reward meal because its not included in the rest of the meals. Yet cheese is made with milk! This does not make any sense to me. And what about alcohol? That is to be saved for the reward meal as well. I occasionally like to drink alcohol when out with friends and now I have to give that up? Everything that I have read about this diet seem to be amazing yet Im not sure how long that I can stick with it. Im running out of meal ideas since I am a very picky eater. Im hoping that someone can e-mail me and give me some ideas. A CAD cookbook would be wonderful if the authors decide to write one.
Rating: Summary: Don't jump on the bandwagon before you take the test. Review: I seen the show on Oprah and it made perfect sense to me. I tried following the general suggestions they gave on the show and within five days, I lost four pounds. This has NEVER happened to me before, and I don't believe my results are typical. I believe the weight was just waiting to come off, and as soon as I cut down on the carbs it finally let go. (I should also add I scored a 45 out of 50 on the test, so this leads me to believe the more addicted you are, the faster the weight comes off. Imagine that!) I bought the book and it helped give me more suggestions on what to eat and what not to eat. I think the exposure this book got on Oprah has everyone running to try this, but like the book clearly states, it is not for everyone. Chances are, if the program isn't working for you, you either aren't a carbo addict, or you aren't following the program correctly. People need to realize that this is a real condition that does exist, even if it doesn't personally exist in themselves. Leave the rest of us to wallow in our glory.
Rating: Summary: I am finally losing weight and not craving foods Review: Although many of the medical community will love to condemn this concept and this book, I have found that for the first time in a long time I am beginning to lose weight. But remember as in all diets, that this has to become a way of life, a routine that you will have to follow in your eating or you will yoyo back to where you were. I find the diet easy to follow and the reward meal is nice to look forward to during the day. I am no longer looking constantly in the food cabinets because I want something to eat.
Rating: Summary: Good! Review: I am a low carber and have been for months now anyone who poo poos this book has not done any research or retrieved all the facts of low carbing many say this is unhealthy way of eating well they fail to look that most people on this diet are taking in lots of fresh vegetables, and not eating any process meats they are also taking multiple vitamins to ensure well balance. I highly recommend this way of eating especially if you have 50+ pounds to lose. Do not allow others to discourage you or tell you that this is unhealthy because there is no evidence to support this therory!
Rating: Summary: lifesaving information Review: This book answers the ageold question, "Why Can't I lose Weight?"If you have tried and tried to lose and not succeeded this book will show you how to easily lose all the weight you choose and to never regain it. I have been on the Carbohydrate Addict's Program for 8 years and it works where nothing else did.
Rating: Summary: Great Program That Helps Me Control Appetite Review: This is an excellent book for those people that have had trouble losing weight on other diets. I have always had a problem with overindulging in high carbohydrate foods. This book provides a reasonable solution for people with a problem like me. Applying their techniques, I have reasonable control of my apiteite and have lost 65 ponds in two months. The weight control method is basically eating unrestricted amounts of meat, fish, dairy and vegtables. Be prepared for "experts" like dietitians and old school doctors that critaze the plan because it doesn't include all the food groups and thus is "unhealthy". They cling to the USDA food charts and their cookie cutter one size fits all eating plans like religious doctrine. "Eat what's on the chart in portion sizes from the chart and you'll loose weight" is what those experts believes. You can be sure the "experts" are almost certainly not overweight themselves and do not feel the stigma, pain or difficulty loosing weight. In their view, its better to be a fat person eating healthy who will die of complications than a thinner person who doesn't eat as much fruit and starches and lives longer with a better self esteem(I'm sure no vitamin can make up for the lost nutrients of fruit right!!!). This book begins by making fun of the same people that criticize it as people that refuse to acknowledge the very idea that two people can eat the exact same food and some will gain weight and others will not. The book explores the causes of hunger, the response of the body to different kinds of food we give it when were are hungry and how/when food is turned into fat. It then explores why some peoples bodies deal with insulin better than others and how your eating can actually control your hunger. Give it a try. The diet is difficult to start because the foods that are the worst for you are the same ones you crave the most. But I learned that after a few days, the program actually reduces my appetite and controlled my food cravings.
