Summary: If you want to stay healthy, STAY AWAY FROM THIS DIET!!
Review: I fail to see the reasoning behind this diet. Eat all the bacon and eggs and other high fat foods you want just as long as you don't consume any carbohydrates?! How much sense does that make?! Carbs are our source of energy and they should be eaten at each meal in small portions. They should also be low-fat. As soon as you dieters start eating carbs again, you will gain the weight right back. Anytime you deprive your body of an element it needs, of course you will loose weight, your body has no choice. If you want to stay healthy, STAY AWAY FROM THIS DIET, or better yet, ask your doctor.

Summary: Hasn't reduced my cravings yet - HELP - what more can i do?
Review: Today is only my third day on this plan. I am crawling the walls all day. I gave this book 4 stars because I truly believe that this can work for me with time. I am finding it really hard to find foods to satisfy me all day long. The reward meal ofcourse, has not been a problem! I think that if I look at another salad, I will puke! Help, anyone out there - email me with ideas for food variety during they day - especially breakfast time.

Summary: Not very useful
Review: I've read two books so far (Dr.Atkins and Protein Power) and this is the least useful of the three. I felt that even though Dr.Atkins was too restrictive, at least you learned the whys and hows of the diet..receipes galore in this one, but that's the majority of the book

Summary: Delicious recipes that really work!
Review: The recipes offered in this book are delicious. And the advice provided is excellent. Best of it, it really works and most likely the attentive reader will be able to shed a few pounds when applying this program. The book also includes a variety of lifestyle hints, yes even philosophical anecdotes regarding stress-reduction techniques and other hazards in life. Another book that has helped me a lot, and I recommend for a healthy lifestyle, which will make you feel good about yourself as it is positive and encouraging, is Dietmar Scherf's "I Love Me: Avoiding and Overcoming Depression"-- also available at Amazon.

Summary: I've never read the book just had a few questions.
Review: Can someone please e-mail me and let me know whether or not this is just an updated version from the previous book--The carbohydrate addicts diet? I don't want to get both books if not needed. Thanks

Summary: Did it- gained it back
Review: I read the book when it first came out and lost some weight. This is not a diet I can live on. I gained the weight back. Maybe it works for some. I've had much better success exercising more and changing the way I think. Two books I read recently really changed the way I felt about myself and helped me to lose more weight than any diet I've ever been on. Man's Search for Meaning was one of the best books I've ever read. It teaches you what is important in life. It is an account of a survivor of the Holocaust. The other book is the Mass Market Woman. That book made me think about why I've spent most of my life on diets without success and why women put so much hope that looking better will make them happier and why this is false.

Summary: Worth considering!
Review: What is undeniable is that the Hellers' program has helped many people. The plan is not complicated, but as a non-meat eater I have found it difficult to follow. For those who can follow it and benefit from it, GREAT!

Personally, I can understand going to certain extremes to bring our bodies back into balance, but once we've restored balance, is it really necessary to continue such a restrictive eating regimen? For an alternative to a lifetime of carb avoidance (and eating carbs with only one meal per day IS carb avoidance), consider The Schwarzbein Principle, by Dr. Diana Schwarzbein. She has a very balanced and do-able approach that has also helped many people.

Also, take a look at Jennie Brand Miller's Glucose Revolution, which explains how all carbohydrates do not have the same effect on our blood sugar levels and insulin production. According to her, broccoli and peppers, borderline on the Hellers' plan, have a negligible effect on our glucose levels and thus do not cause insulin spikes. Paying attention to the glycemic index, instead of a blanket avoidance of carbs, might be the better route for some people.

The Hellers are to be commended for helping as many people as they have, but there are alternatives if the Hellers plan isn't for you.

Summary: The eat everything in site cravings are gone!!!
Review: At last a healthy way of eating that allows me to eat the foods I love and still lose weight. I used to start eating in the morning and never be satisfied. I would eat and eat until I felt sick and still be looking in the refrigerator for something to stop my cravings. Three days of eating the Drs. Hellers way and those cravings were gone!!! I feel like a normal human being again. I knew deep down inside of me that there was something wrong with my body. The Hellers helped me to see that my being overweight was not my fault! If you are addicted to carbohydrates then it's not your fault either! I began eating this way Feb 1st of 1999 as of October 1st I have lost a total of 23 pounds. I have not deprived myself. I do not feel restricted. My weight loss is slower than most people who eat this way but I don't care. I feel great. I even forget to eat sometimes. Yes it's true. It still amazes me. I won't budge off this way of eating for anything. If your test scores say you are a carbohydrate addict I highly reccommend you give this way of eating a try. I has changed my life for the better. I also reccommend that you sign up for the Carbohydrates Addicts Support Group via the internet. Lots of great advice, recipes and meal planning. Darlene in Vermont

Summary: A diet plan that will change your life
Review: I've read it - I'm trying it. I've been following this plan for 12 days and I have lost 13.5 lbs. Better yet, I don't crave the carbs. Or for that matter, I don't crave to eat anything between meals! I recommend this book to everyone
