Summary: FINALLY!! A diet that works that I can work with.
Review: For over 20 years I have "battled" my weight and I finally have found the tool that will help me win this war. Since reading the book and following the plan (two weeks) I have lost 7 pounds. I am not hungry (sometimes I "forget" to eat lunch), do not have my constant sugar/junk food cravings and have been able to make the plan work at home, in restaurants and at parties. If there is something I really want to have (like ice cream, pasta or pizza) I just wait until my reward meal and enjoy every bite with no weight gain and no guilt.

If other plans have failed you, this may be the one for you. It is working for me!

Summary: Jumping from fat to fiction ..
Review: The overly simplistic writing style, plus the annoying text boxes repeating the first sentence in the following paragraph, will get to you if you are aware of writing styles. However, the biggest problem with the book is the reward meal. It is close-but-not-quite-like Dr. Atkins's diet, but the reward meal throws the theory out of balance. If you are a true carb addict, your addictions will continue to be fed on this diet.

Give up teasing yourself with the reward meals, and try Dr. Atkins's diet instead. I notice the authors did not mention Dr. A. a single time, but if you have the doctor's book, you'll see them mentioned and his opinion of the reward meal.

Summary: This guide to proper eating, WORKS!
Review: My wife and I have been using this eating plan for two full weeks. My wife has lost 11 pounds and I have lost 10. It is really a great plan and we have since ordered an additional two books for friends who have asked what are we doing....

Summary: This diet makes you sick
Review: I went on this diet for 9 weeks and it turned me into a mess. I was constantly dizzy and low on energy and my mouth was very dry. I also found the diet was vey restrictive and bland.

I'm surprised Oprah just recommended it to everyone before even trying it out for at least six months- I think she's taking a lot of people down the wrong path to weightloss- and it will backfire on her when people get sick!

Summary: Liked it
Review: I thought it was informative and highly useful. It was interesting to read. I feel healthier already and I haven't even done anything.

Summary: DO-ABLE!!!!!
Review: My only disappointment is that nutritional information was not included. I'm a diet controlled diabetic and it's difficult to try and incorporate some of the recipes into my diet when I don't know the exact exchanges.

Summary: Can't loose weight eating mac & cheese and pie!
Review: I've been following this diet religiously since I saw it on Oprah four weeks ago and I just can't loose weight. I'm convinced it because of the reward meal. There is no way you can loose weight eating macaroni and cheese and pie for dinner. Calories still count and good old fashion nutrition can't be ignored! I'm going back to Jenny Craig.

Summary: Restrictive Diet...NOT!!!!!!!!
Review: I started this way of eating about 4 weeks ago and I feel GREAT!! I don't understand it when people say that it is "restrictive" and "unhealthy". I have never eaten so healthy in my life. You eat real food and you don't have to weigh anything or count points or even keep a food log. By eating this way, you feel satisfied and free from cravings!

Thank you for writing this book!

Summary: Best food plan I've ever tried & I've tried them all!!
Review: Several years ago I tried the original book, The Carbohydrate Addict's Diet, and lost 17 lbs., then the weight loss stopped. However, after getting the Lifespan Program, I was able to realize several things I was doing wrong and how to correct them. The more detailed explanation of the balanced reward meal has made all the difference in the world.

As for the reviews that say the reward meal is limited, I think they misunderstood the meal plans in the back of the book. They are just that - meal plans, merely suggestions of what you can eat, but you are certainly free to choose something else. Recently, I had a Shoney's hot fudge cake for my reward meal carbs. Hardly a nourishing choice, but it was what I wanted, I ate it, enjoyed it, and still lost 1-1/2 lbs that night. I have tried every diet and diet plan known to man, but for me, a true carbohydrate addict, this is the only plan that works. Thank you, Drs. Rachael & Richard!

Summary: Light at the end of the tunnel?
Review: I have just finished reading this well written book and am really anxious to start this program. I have been overweight all my life and am now entering menopause and gaining even more weight! My only success with weight loss was with fen-phen, when for 9 months I actually lost weight and started to feel good about myself. Needless to say, when the fen-phen stopped so did my weight loss and I have since gained all the weight back plus 15 lbs! I read the Hellers book, took the test and found out my problem could very well be an addiction to carbs. I really must comment on the reviews by others who are promoting the Zone diet and the nutrition bars...a 2.6 oz bar contains 17g of carbs and 13g of sugar...no wonder that with my addiction to carbs that I ended up bingeing on the bars and gaining weight...the Zone diet may work for some but not those of us addicted to carbs!
