Summary: Most Doctors Say This Diet is Harmful
Review: Orthodox medicine is saying this diet will harm your healthy (I refer to Time Magazine recent cover story that will back this up) Fat is BAD for you. There is over 20 years of research backing this up. Ask youself one question you've been told fat is bad for the last 20 years, does it make ANY sense at all that out of the blue it's ok? What happened to all the studies that said it was bad for your health? Doctors are still subscribing medicine that reduces cholestrol in your blood stream. This is a deadly disease and these guy's are telling us to eat fat? DOES THAT MAKE ANY SENSE? The reason the diet works is that in total you have reduced your calorie intake. Sure there is something to your glucose level effecting your hunger, but this diet is the WRONG approach, more harm is done then good. If you don't buy what I am saying do yourself a favor and ASK YOUR DOCTOR.

Summary: A break-through plan to stop food cravings and guilt
Review: I've been on the plan for about three weeks and the greatest thing I can say is that I've never stuck to any diet for this long before. This plan helps you to feel in total control; you don't crave foods anymore, so you don't have to use excessive "willpower" to stay on the program. My experience on the program is that after about two days I didn't want to overeat, eat all day, or eat things I shouldn't. This is a miracle in itself to me. I don't always stick to all of the Hellers' rules, but I have been following the guidelines consistently. I've lost weight, felt much more energetic, and have been in complete control of my eating. I would recommend the program to anyone who is carbohydrate addicted.

Summary: I finally found the program for my problem but....
Review: I really feel that this book is the answer to my weight struggle. I feel that its advise is very sound. I tried the Atkins diet and it was way to extreme for me. I felt sick and gained weight. I have struggled with this since I was 18. Now I am 28 and have a son and twin daughters it is even worse. I have about 30lbs to loose and am excited to be on this program. I started about a week ago. I do struggle with the variety. The book offers a lot of recipes but they seem to gourmet to me and my family. My six year old and four year olds are not even interested in them not to mention the time to cook most of them. If anyone has any recommendations for a recipe book or a place to get ideas, let me know.

Summary: A healthy book!
Review: The authors of this book suggest a change in lifestyle. Changes are not only required in eating habits, but also in attitudes. Both Drs. Hellers explain these suggested changes in detail and the little stories attached to it are motivating enough to give their program a try. If the reader implements these suggestions, no doubt about it, his or her life will become healthier and as an additional benefit the attentive student can lose a few pounds. To complete the healthy lifestyle program also in the psychological and spiritual realm, and to establish the proper self-esteem to make you feel precious no matter what you look like and even if you fail to stick by the discipline, I highly recommend the extremely helpful book by Dietmar Scherf "I Love Me: Avoiding and Overcoming Depression" which is also available at Amazon.com.

Summary: A solution at last!
Review: At 36 years old, I've been fighting my weight since I was 17. Sometimes it won, sometimes I did. I've been on the program about 4 weeks and love it! The best part is that it is a balanced program. I eat better on this program than I ever have. Plenty of low carb vegetables and a lot of the foods I love. Plus I don't feel deprived. If I want to have ice cream at my reward meal, I have it. I try to alternate with complex carbohydrates, but when I need something sweet, I have it. I'm glad someone finally figured it all out for us carbohydrate addicts. I still have a hard time believing I can eat the foods I like and lose weight, but it works! Thanks to Drs. Heller.

Summary: Every person is different from everyone else
Review: every person is different from everyone else on thisplanet. What seems like an ideal way of eating for one is not the casefor someone else. What each person needs to do is to trust their own instincts and listen to their bodies, knowing the outline of a healthy standard of life - (regular exercise, eating varied foods that are suppose to bring nutrition into your body and balancing their lifestyle to their eating habits by that what I mean is if you know you are going to have a heavy meal balance it out with a light one before or after). There are periods in everyone's life where they eat more than their usual capacity or less. That is also a part of life. Learn to respect your rythms and don't fight against your body. No one can tell anyone which way to eat. If you educate yourself with a good knowledge of nutrition than trust yourself to be the best person to know your needs and requirements. Another major fact of life that we need to accept is that there does not need to be an answer for all and every emotion or instinct in your self. Just accept that life is not just about reading the lines but about understanding what is in between.

Review: A hearty thumbs up for the Hellers!

I tried the first book about two years ago, and for whatever reasons I quit trying. Reasons having more to do with me as a person than failure of the plan...

However I got the CA Lifespan book a day after Oprah's second program, and have been following it ever since.

YES - I've lost pounds AND inches, but the balance and well-being I feel is far more important. So I urge any of you who are like me -if you find yourself in the highly addicted range, as I was - PLEASE give this program a chance!

As the Heller's promise, I felt differently in a couple of days and that was a great relief. But now, after 3 weeks of loss of cravings, I am convinced that this program is a biological balancing of a very dangerous insulin problem. The more out of balance you are the more you need this!

I have a long long way to go to be at my right weight, but to know that I can follow this with ease and to feel like a normal person again is so wonderful that the weight loss is like a side benefit. (I do love trying on previously tight things and finding them fitting or loose, though!)

By the way, I have a package of cookies unopened in my cupboard, a half loaf of bread and an unopened pint of ice cream (1 week old) in my freezer, and lots of leftover Halloween candy. In the past these foods could have been gone in a single day, two at the most...I look at it and don't even want it - unbelievable. I am in control and this is REALLY it!

OH- and as for being restrictive, I cannot agree. I am eating very healthy food in good quantities, I change the times and the selections on a daily basis, and my nails, hair and skin are looking terrific!

Can't wait for my whole family to see me at holiday time...by then I'll be even better!

Summary: Fine for some people
Review: I tried this diet several times, and just can't stick with it. It appears to be great for some people, but not for others. It might be right for you, but I just can't bear the thought of not having cereal or an English Muffin and juice for breakfast, and only having milk in my tea once a day.

I also saw Oprah's show, and was disappointed that she was so willing to jump on this bandwagon after putting her support behind Bob Greene's sensible "Make the Connection" program.

Summary: Control is the name of the Game
Review: I've been on this eating plan for two and a half weeks and have lost 7lbs. The most significant benefit of this diet, as far as I'm concerned is that you take back control of your eating impulses. I've always tried to go the "healthy route" when dieting and I am a fairly conservative person, so I've never tried anything which I felt was gimmicky. I did try the Atkins diet but just felt that all that fat was just not right for me, and after two weeks of being very faithful to the plan, had not lost any weight. I did however notice that my appetite was "dampened" and was trying to figure out how I could tap into that control,while eating a more balanced diet. Wow...that's just what the Heller's book accomplishes. I am in complete control of my eating habits for the first time in many years. I choose what I want to eat because I am not craving ANY food. I am making healthy lower fat choices and I have started using the Options part of the program..Chromium..Exercise..eliminating MSG. I too, feel noticeably more energy and I'm so excited because I know this is not just a "diet" but a way of eating that I can sustain indefinately. If you fit the CA profile, really..give this a shot!
