Summary: It Worked Great For Me!
Review: Some may call it a "fad", but this book worked for me. After quitting smoking at age 38 and gaining 30 pounds without eating more, I was desparate. I had never been fat in my entire life!

I tried Weight Watchers and hired a personal trainer with result. This is the only thing that worked for me! I gave my copy of the book to and friend, and it's doing wonders for her as well!

Summary: Helen
Review: I received The Carbohydrate Addict's Lifespan Program three days ago, and started reading. I was impressed by the thoroughness of the Heller's research and of their experiences with their own health and weight control. I immediately started the change in my diet, due in large part to the positive experiences of a friend and co-worker, who started the diet about 2 months ago. Yes, it has been only three days, however I have lost three to four pounds and, more importantly, I am devoid of cravings of any kind. This is very unlike me, who for far too long have had to have dessert with every meal, every day (plus carbohydrate snacks). I am a diabetic (II) and have had a drop in blood sugar according to my frequent tests during the day and night for the past two days. I stopped the medication on the second day because I was afraid that my blood sugar would drop too low. My blood sugar was more consistent and was far lower this morning than when on the medication (Amaryl). My doctor told me recently that I would someday have to take insulin before bedtime in addition to Amaryl in the AM. Since I've meditated off and on for years (TM), I started again this AM. I also went out and bought chromium GTF, and started that yesterday. AND, I don't know if this is serendipity, but my chronic sinus problem seems to have disappeared. I realize that it's far too early to say that the sinus problem is gone for good, but I'm feeling great, breathing easier, my mind is clearer, and I have energy to spare! I will write a follow-up in a few weeks. Thank you so much Drs. Heller for your amazing work and Amazon for providing this forum.

Summary: Result oriented book with a sensible approach
Review: This book is pretty good. The best part, to me, is that it gives guidelines for reward meals that really help you STAY on the diet and it makes real, practical, metabolic sense. LifeSpan outlines a plan that GIVES results, unlike the diets of most experts, who say that ours is an increasingly fat society. Yet for years the low fat, high carb diet has failed (300 gms. is the current carb FDA reccomendation!.) I see now that hope, while dieting, is fostered only with positive results. I have lost 20 pounds in just under one month and I feel great! My arthritis is gone, my energy up and I am determined to keep going. I know now that I can finally do it and I have fewer cravings with the daily reward meals! I have read THIS plan, the Protein Power Plan, by the Eades MDs, the famous Atkin's plan, Sugar Busters, the Zone, etc., they are all great, its a matter of personal preference. The message, is the basically the same in all of them. Dieters learn how metabolism, glucagon and insulin levels interact to cause cravings, weight loss and gain. They learn how to monitor the TYPES of foods eaten, and thus control their metabolism, insulin levels and glucagon levels to get the desired effect. What the so-called experts say about low carbs and high protein no longer maters to me because their high carbs and low fat diets don't work, at least for me. I see the outpouring of testimonials about this and other similar books and have concluded that the critics JUST don't get it! Do yourself a favor and see what the real experts say; those who have been fat and who are finally losing weight. The self proclaimed scientific community, now prolific critics of low carb dieting, WILL eventually jump on the bandwagon and come to the same conclusions that the Heller's, Atkins, Scarsdale, other physicians and PH.D's have discovered and pushed for decades. In fact, science is already talking about "syndrome X" and its relations to insulin levels! I applaud the Atkins, the Heller's and the Eades, and all the other doctor's who have the courage to go against the grain. But I remember that the majority, at one time in history, believed that the world was flat.

Summary: Lost 20 lbs in 5 weeks...
Review: I lost 20 lbs on this diet in 5 weeks... and I've been keeping it off. My wife has lost 12 lbs in the same timeframe.

This diet was a big change for us at first. We had to learn to shop differently. We now buy more fresh vegetables and meats. But after the initial 2 weeks (getting used to it) we LOVE IT.

I have more energy. My wife has more energy. I don't get hungry and I don't have afternoon cravings for snacks. I used to hit the snack machine at about 3pm every day.

Don't just buy this book. Read it and follow it. Follow it exactly for just 2 weeks and I think you'll agree this really works.

This book has changed our lives.

Summary: Not for every carb addict
Review: I was on this diet for 2 weeks and lost 6 lbs, however, I was continuously dizzy, weak and had to drop my daily exercise regimen... Having to give up exercise was too much for me so I discontinued the program... I've gained back 3 lbs and my energy to exercise again. If it weren't for the side effects I probably would have stuck it out and most likely would have reached my goal weight. Good luck!

Summary: An answer at last
Review: I have been heavy all of my life and six months ago I had a full hystorectomy. This book has been a life saver for me. I have been depressed, tired all the time and starving. It is interesting to me how carbohydrates and insulin affect hormone levels. I have read many articles about increasing seritonins that seem to coinside. I've even went off of my antidepressants. I have lost 10 pounds, have more energy, no depression and no cravings. People who comment that this diet has too much protein exaggerate. I think that the most important thing that this diet does is eliminate cravings. Thereby making it possible to cut back on all foods. It's so easy and seems so natural. I will do this the rest of my life.

Summary: Lose Weight Without Suffering!
Review: This is an excellent book as far as the program goes. I lost an average of 1 pound per day! (The book promises 1.5 per week) The program is EASY to follow because after 3 days on the diet you loose your desire for those fat/sugar filled foods that aren't good for you. I've recommended it to all my friends at work!

Summary: Much harder to follow and understand than promotions suggest
Review: I was very disappointed in this book. I listened to many promotions and the diet sounded simple and promising. I had hoped to find an eating plan for life. I had a hard time following this book and found the restrictions (other than the reward meal which were more like a binge) were to intense.

Summary: Carbohydrate Addit's Lifespan Program
Review: My sister recommended this diet program and book and I started it 7 days before Thanksgiving. I have lost 19 lbs thus far with no pain. I can not imagine "not being hungry". It is wonderful. My doctor had recommended the Atkins diet but this has the reward meal and I am delighted. Very easy to live with. A breath of fresh air in the world of dieters. I always knew that I ate because I was hungry and now I know it was the message to my brain to send insulin when I was eating carbohydrates. I believe this is a plan that I can can live with for the rest of my life. TRY IT.

Summary: Took too long to get tol the point
Review: I waited for the book to get to the bottom line but it never really did. All it offered were some very detailed complication sample menus to follow for each meal.
