Rating: Summary: An Excellent Guide thru Auto Immune Disease Review: I was diagnosed with auto immune hearing loss 2 years ago, and although my condition is so rare that it didn't make it in the book, the general information in it changed my life. Through reading the book, I was encouraged to figure out if I had a food allergy. Discovering a food allergy (to wheat) changed my life and my body. It put my chaotic body into a state of order for the first time in 5 years, and I had more energy than I had known in my life.

Rating: Summary: Finally! Review: Mary J. Shomon's "Living Well with Autoimmune Disease: What Your Doctor Doesn't Tell You...That You Need to Know" is THE book that both my mother and I have been waiting for! Informative and timely info! Thank you, Ms. Shomon!
Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: Mary Shomon did it again, with Living Well with Autoimmune Disease. If you have an autoimmune disease this book is a great resource for learning and finding information on your disease. Plus for those who think they have more than one autoimmune disease this book helps them find the answers. Great check list make office visits more productive for the doctor and patient. I would recommend this book to all autoimmune suffers.
Rating: Summary: Beautifully Written Review: Mary Shomon not only provides much-needed information about autoimmune diseases, her words offer comfort and hope to those living in constant pain and fear. She's with the reader all the way as she describes her own experience with automimmune disease. She gives specific steps for taking control and using alternative sources of help and information other than doctors (who often dismiss patients when they don't know how to diagnose or treat these insidious diseases). For anyone living with an automimmune disease, this book is empowering, informative and uplifting.
Rating: Summary: Quackery Review: Mary Shomon's books and site are filled with quackery Full of opinions and less to do with factual info.
Rating: Summary: An Excellent Resource Review: Ms. Shomon does an excellent job of providing the information we need to make informed decisions about our health. Doctors today are too rushed and preoccupied to give us the insight that Ms. Shomon shares with us. How fortunate we are to have an advocate who is willing to share her experiences and research with us. I look forward to more books in this series.
Rating: Summary: Another successful book from Mary Shomon Review: Nationally-recognized patient advocate Mary Shomon has scored another success with her latest book, Living Well With Autoimmune Disease. As a physician, I've recommended her book on hypothyroidism to many patients, and this new work is equally valuable. Addressing the conventional diagnostic and therapeutic modalities as well as including thoughtful and intelligent discussions of alternative therapies and lifestyle measures to help symptom control, this book is a must for anyone suffering from autoimmune disease or having a family history of these conditions.Written in accessible form, the book is packed with information, including extensive lists of references and resources on patient support and advocacy services. I particularly applaud Shomon's emphasis on patient empowerment and becoming an educated health consumer. Also included are information on choosing the right doctor for you, and practical lifestyle tips including stress management advice. I highly recommend this book to both patients and practitioners.
Rating: Summary: Nothing New Here Review: Nothing new here. Lots of the same stuff from Mary's thyroid book and just a skimming of the major autoimmune diseases. Some of the medical facts were off, like cells making plasma??? I wondered if the long list of doctors who reviewed this book actually read it because when the book attempted to skim deeper waters, it sank. This book was a poor imitation of Ravicz's Thriving with Your Autoimmune Disorder.
Rating: Summary: A solid, insightful work from someone who's been there... Review: Shomon offers valuable guidance on getting a correct diagnosis, finding a doctor who will work with you and fight for you, and assembling a traditional and/or holistic care plan that works for you. An accomplished author and medical writer in her own right, Shomon's own experience with an autoimmune condition (thyroid disease) gives "Living Well..." added insight that sets it apart from other books of its genre. An impressive resource section rounds out this reference work that should be in every autoimmune patient's collection (and on their doctor's bookshelf as well).
