Rating: Summary: It is because of this book that I work with children today. Review: Besides books about the Holocaust, this was one of the most difficult books for me to read. The fact that one human being, much less an innocent child, could endure so much is amazing to me. This book was a much needed slap in the face and because of it, I am now volunteering with children and I make sure that each and every one of those kids are able to come to me if they have a problem. I only wish Ursula had a person like that in her short life.
Rating: Summary: Sadly, the silence echoes on and nobody hears Review: How tragic that it takes an event like this to draw attention to child abuse victims. There are definite signs of child abuse, and not all of them are physical. Sadly, the people most likely to see them usually ignore them: so-and-so has been my friend for years, I know she'd never do something like this OR yes, the father/boyfriend might be capable of abuse but I know (the mom) would never tolerate it, OR that could never happen - these people aren't "that kind of family." It can happen to anyone, and sadly, it does.
Rating: Summary: A terrific, heartbreaking story Review: I am only 14, but I consider myself to be a pretty good judge of books. This book had me crying the whole time I read it. I had nightmares about it for weeks afterwards. That is the effect this book should have. I actually met the author, and what Eve had to say about this book brought tears to my eyes again. This is the best book of it's kind I have ever read.
Rating: Summary: I'll never forget her name! Review: I first read this book 12 years ago, by the suggestion of a co-worker. I honestly have never cried so much from reading ANY book in my entire life. I am now 31 years old and crying as I think about Ursula "Sunshine" Assaid(USA). I have been looking for this book for years and I'm hopeful that Amazon.com will be able to ship it to me. Anyone who even knows, seen, heard or laid eyes on just 1 child MUST read this book. You won't be or see children the same!(P,S,) Keep tissues handy!
Rating: Summary: Amazing Book Review: I first read this book 15 years ago and have never forgotten this little girl, or her name...USA!!! My son is old enough to read it now and I know he will learn as much from it as I did. It is a beautiful book that will show you how trully lucky and happy your own childhood is/was and hopefully inspire you to help out a less fortunate child or family. READ THIS BOOK!!! And may it touch you as it has always touched me.
Rating: Summary: dealth from child abuse and no one heard Review: I first read this book back in 1988 and now I finally found it. I was only 10 years old and I understood every single part of the story. I am now in my twenties and have been looking for this book since. This story not only makes you realize how heartbreaking it was for this little girl to die this way but it makes you wake up and start paying attention to your own children and other peoples children. This world needs more woman and men to stand up and speak, then to [be quiet] and mind your own business. Otherwise that little girl would be alive today. This book is worth the time to read!!! PLEASE READ IT!
Rating: Summary: absolutely heart breaking...and touching! Review: I first read this book back in 1988 and now I finally found it. Rating: Summary: A Book With a Message Review: I first read this book in 7th grade at the request of the liaison officer of our school. And while I have never been abused, it carried a life long message with it that reached to the depth of my soul. I have carried the message of this book for about 10 years and I have never forgotten about Ursula Sunshine Assaid (USA)!
Rating: Summary: This book really touched me...and I'm only a child myself! Review: I first read this book in the sixth grade and haven't been able to find it in any library since. However, it has made me more aware of child abuse in America and how horrible it really is. I cannot believe that some judges will overlook this sort of thing while I as a young child was able to see how gruesome it is. Even now I am only 14 and outraged that this is being overlooked in our country. I think every teenager should read this book. It makes us,who especially at this age are self-centered appreciate what we have.
Rating: Summary: A Moving Story of a Tortured and Unloved Child Review: I first read this book whan I was 12 years old. It is a horrible story, but it needs to be told. This horrifying look at the last week of tiny little Ursula's life is about as graphic and disturbing as it gets. I am now 28 years old and it still haunts me to think anybody(much less her mother)could allow suffering of this magnitude to occur. This book is a living testimony to all children who suffer at the hands of beasts, and is a definite read for anybody. Be prepared to be moved in ways you never thought possible, and also become more aware of a problem that occurs everyday in this world. It breaks my heart to think that this child never had a caring parent to protect her from a demon, who deservedly met his fate in prison in 1996(he was murdered by another inmate). Keep the tissues handy, you will be moved to tears on several occasions.
