Summary: Okay, I'm the minority here (again! LOL) but this worries me
Review: Every time I see a book written by a STAR, I just know people will buy it and buy into it. Yes, "Blair" was a lovely young lady and now she's grown up and married with three beautiful children. Oh and she's a devout Christian. That's all nice and good.

What worries me is some of the "corrections" she suggests. She lists them all very neatly for parents who are in a hurry to dole out the punishment. I just can't believe that she punishes her children in the bathroom of all places! Don't you think that eventually they'd be afraid of that one room?

She uses the Bible as her guide. Don't get me wrong, I love the Bible, I love God and I'm a Catholic.

Please, just tell me, can you imagine Jesus placing hot sauce on a young child's tongue or can you imagine Him making a child stand still and not move until he's ready for bed?!?

There are other ways to raise our children. Loving ways! Why do so many people call it "Train your child"? I didn't give birth to a puppy. We are raising and teaching our son to grow up and Love God and to know that He loves him, too.

Summary: Who would have thought ole Blair had it in her
Review: Okay, I should have realized Lisa Whelchel's character on TV was just, er, a character. But Blair could be such a stinker, who would have guessed that Lisa was already influencing children in positive ways by making demands of scriptwriters to model godly behavior on the show. I never would have guessed the woman "behind" Blair could be so warm, funny, intelligent and, yes, godly. So I was skeptical when someone suggested this book to me. I figured, Yeah, what does some prissy star know about raising kids with good character. Sorry I pre-judged you, Lisa.
The "Facts" are just these: this ties as the best parenting book I've ever read. (And as a biological parent of little guys and a foster parent of problem teens, I've read plenty...Trust me! By the way, the tie is with Kevin Leman's "Making Children Mind Without Losing Yours.") Anyway, Creative Correction is, believe it or not, a page turner. I was inspired by the way Lisa is raising her kids. I was motivated to try her practical ideas and model her techniques to come up with my own. I laughed and cringed, respectively, at her personal stories of triumph and failure. Do yourself and your kids a favor. Buy and read this book, then keep it on the book shelf as a reference. I'm buying several more copies to share.
Happy parenting! God bless

Summary: Perfect for parents like us who need new ideas!
Review: This book is absolutely wonderful! We use it again and again as we discipline our children in love and respect. It has helped us move from manipulative forms of discipline that don't really translate into deep character changes to corrective discipline that is changing all of our lives! Mitch is a 6th grade teacher at a Christian school and he has also gleamed ideas from this book that are perfect for disciplining in the classroom! We recommend it to all!

Summary: Parenting facts101
Review: When you are just about to pull out your last hair this book comes to the rescue... I enjoyed the real life advise, as well as the antidotes Lisa shares. She reminds you parenting is not an "exact" sport. You realistically can't use all the ideas but you can pick and choose what works in your lifestyle and then get a good chuckle from some of the others. After,I can re-group and start again. No easy task with 3 toddlers under 5. I look for all the "creative ideas" I can find and Lisa gives some winners with real life Christian values as a bonus! Thank you Lisa and all those that shared along with you.

Summary: Biblical Direction For Children
Review: I highly reccomend this book to any parent who is trying to raise their children for God's glory! I was reminded of several aspects of Christian parenting that have been overlooked in our home. I am thankful for a book that reminds us to direct our children to the Father for forgiveness and direction. She also reminds us to help our children to be responsible for their own relationship with Christ.

I enjoyed the way that Lisa presented the material. Reading this book is like sitting down to talk to an old friend over a cup of coffee. She comes across as being very encouraging not judgmental at all.

I trust you will get as much out of Creative Correction that I did.

Summary: i loved it!
Review: I'm not one to run toward a "self-help" book or an instruction manual, but this is one of the best parenting books I've had the privilege to read. I think it's mostly because it's written by a mom who is real and down to earth - and full of wisdom from God. Thanks, Lisa.

Summary: All About Lisa Whelchel and her Family
Review: That is what this book should be renamed! After reading most of this book I have found that Lisa seems to be a very funny and nice person. However, some of the forms of punishments are unethical for today's world. Using schoolwork and the Bible as forms of punishments is a terrible idea. Aren't we supposed to be encouraging our kids to love school and the Bible? Instead of making them do school and bible work when they are bad. It's no wonder her kids don't like school very much.
The author also refers to several methods of "tongue" punishments (I don't want to reveal major elements in the book). While these would have been acceptable methods 30 years ago, these "tongue" punishments by today's standards would be grounds for Social services to be knocking on your door.
I did however get one good idea from this book so that is why I am giving it two stars instead of one, plus I can tell the author put much effort in this book. Should you decide to purchase this book please use much discernment when reading it and using any of the methods of punishment.

Summary: More like Discipline 101
Review: Based on a television interview the author did, I was intrigued by the subject matter and title. The book focuses too much on
religious discipline and vaguely mentions spanking. There did not seem to be too much concern for the psycological well-being of the child, only right and wrong. Ideas from other parents, in many cases, made the book passably readable.

Summary: Godly Children are Within Your Grasp
Review: With this "resource" godly children are within your reach. Welchel offers sound advice from a parent who has been there. Advice for areas from obedience to handling failure and beyond are well covered in this handbook. As the author points out this is a book which, if used appropriately, will be dog-eared in no time. The toolbox is already in use in my house. My husband and I love the practical applications and natural consequences.

Summary: Useful ideas for discipline
Review: I don't care what anyone says, these ideas work. Our daughter has really responded to the disciplinary ideas given in this book. We were having a hard time with her (she is 4), but have really seen her learn much better behavior. She is more affectionate and loving, while being better behaved. Thanks Lisa.
