Summary: Good sense parenting
Review: As the mother of triplets I have found these books to be invaluable. They provide great parenting guidlines and suggestions. As with everything in parenting you must use your common sense and modify their suggestions to your situation. Very helpful for getting your child on a great schedule that makes both of you happy.
I cant tell you how many people have told me what great well behaved, happy, and compliant children I have. We have all slept through the night since 13 weeks!!!

Summary: everything in moderation
Review: As with any parenting book, information and advice and instruction from others (professional or not) should be taken within moderation. This book, as others of Ezzo's, provides useful knowledge and insight. Some of its instruction has been labelled "extreme, abusive,..." Anything can be read into anything if not approached with common sense and caution. Ezzo's books offer a valuable perspective on the MANY different styles of parenting, giving examples of outcomes and suggestions for handling behavior. As you read it, take from it what you need and believe and what pertains to you and leave the rest alone. We have wonderful children raised on a very flex version of this book, as does the rest of my family and several friends. Books are written with that authors perspective and opinion... take it as that and move on a little bit wiser.

Summary: right wing nut with no actual information
Review: I'm amazed that this book even got published. What upsets me most is that it got published without any warnings on the jacket. It needs to clearly state, "Must be a fanatical Christian to see this book as useful." As I read it I felt similar to the pilot assaulted by H.C.'s in the movie Airplane. I couldn't figure out if I was being given advice about raising my child or brainwashed into drinking poisoned lemonade. In conclusion, this book sucked - do not waste a moment of your life reading it.

Summary: If you knock it, you probably haven't tried it.
Review: It seems to me, that most people with strong negative opinions about Ezzo's books have never given them a real try. The only people I know who don't like these concepts, haven't even ever used them. That's pretty ignorant. These books especially Toddlerwise are wonderful. No abusive, restrictive, or any of that garbage people say. If you actually read the entire books, you will see that the goal is quite the opposite. The goal is to be loving, kind, nurting while teaching your children skills that will set them up for success. It is not to have super control over them. Young children need firm boundaries for their safety as well as healthy development. Utimately they will have greater freedom. In other words, read the books before you trash them. They have helped a lot of helpless parents. Thanks!

Summary: We loved Toddlerwise. . . And then regretted it.
Review: Often people defend Gary Ezzo's parenting materials with "The materials are great! As long as you use common sense and don't follow the books legalistically. . ." The assumption is that there is no inherent problem with Babywise, just in parents not using common sense.

Two friends sent me Gary Ezzo's "Babywise" when I was expecting our first. It was interesting, a bit strange--nothing like the other books I had read about infant parenting. But the way in which it was written was persuasive and I found myself skimming over it again. Then the "Preparation for Parenting" classes were offered at our church.

In the end, we implemented the PDF routine--with common sense, flexibility, and encouragement from "Contact Moms."

My son seemed to do great on it at first--but my son went from a hefty 16 lbs at 3.5 months to 14 lb 2 oz at 6 months.

Later I found out that milk supply loss and slowed weight gain is normal within families that implement Babywise. Why? Because it goes against how breastfeeding works, chemically, hormonally and physiologically. And Babywise if full of other *medical* errors, that parents tend to overlook because of how persuasive Gary Ezzo can write.

If you are interested in the full story of our experience with Babywise, Toddlerwise, and Ezzo materials in general, google "Confessions of a Failed Babywiser".

Don't waste your money on this book.

Summary: It is not worth the $12.95 or even $8.
Review: The authors have a very nice style, unfortunately the book is not useful enough compared to "What to Expect the Toddler Years" ISBN : 0894809946.

Summary: if you want miserable, sick kids buy this book
Review: the methods outlined in this book would turn any happy toddler into a depressed and dysfunctional toddler in no time. the ezzos have continued thier long tradition of abusing children in the name of discipline with this book. don't buy it. or any book by ezzo. he is not even a real dr.

Summary: Stay Away
Review: these books are dangerous--they seduce parents into a terrible mindset that can endanger their lifelong relationships with their children. Think about it: why would a kid who was treated in such a punitive manner ever willingly confide in those same parents when a teenager? Also, don't buy the religious justifications for this theory--it's totally fraudulent.

Summary: A must have for parenting
Review: This author has been a godsend to our family - we have a happy healthy family of three children and they were all parented according to these methods. Everyone that I know that has used his principles is thrilled at the result!
