Summary: This is an excellent book on breastfeeding!
Review: I read most of this book while I was still pregnant and preparing for breastfeeding my baby. I found the information was clear and straight-forward. The tone may have been a little too "preechy". For instance, I had awfully sore nipples in the first few days, and the book said that you only get sore nipples if you are doing it incorrectly. It took a very good lactation consultant to get me over that hump. However, the authors are encouraging successful breastfeeding, whatever that means for you and your baby. There are sections about troubleshooting, supplimenting, going back to work and pumping, weight loss and exercise, and sexuality. The only part I haven't read yet is the chapter on weaning.

Summary: Great book, a must have!
Review: I received this book as a gift from a friend. It has been so helpful since I had my baby. I highly recommend this to anyone even considering breastfeeding. I still find myself referring to the book occasionally. Buy this book before you have your baby and start reading!

Summary: A useful tool
Review: I thought this book was extremely useful in educating me about breastfeeding techniques, how milk is produced, the benefits of breastfeeding etc. This book answered many questions I had about what my baby may or may not be going through, such as feeding habits, sucking etc.

Summary: A great book that doesn't judge you!
Review: I was looking for a good breastfeeding book since the first time around I didnt read a lot about it and quit breastfeeding at 7 weeks. ... It's small in size, and cheap for the unvaluable information it provides. It provides tons of information from the history of breastfeeding, societal views on the issue, biology and anatomy of the breast and milk production, benefits to you and for your baby, comparisons between cow's and human milk, and the information is backed by research done all over the world. I was looking for a book that would not send judgemental messages to women who will prefer to bottle feed instead of breastfeed, and this is it. I didnt want to read something written by militant authors, and this is it.
I want to breastfeed longer this time around, therefore I am reading as much as I can on the subject (especially on topics such as how to solve breastfeeding problems), and this book so far has motivated me to start on the right track, and hopefully end on the right track.

Summary: You need this book if you intend to breastfeed
Review: I'm very critical when it comes to books on breastfeeding. I only feel comfortable recommending books that are packed with useful information and written in a supportive and encouraging style. This book is definitely the best of the bunch, offering terrific tips on getting started during the early weeks, preventing and solving nursing problems, nursing after your return to work, and many other equally important subjects. I highly recommend this book to all the expectant couples who sign up for my workshops!

Summary: Tons of information, except
Review: if you have a premature baby. I felt the premmie section just glossed over the issues and did not give any real advice. I will end up pumping and bottle feeding for the long haul and I did not feel like their was any information of this as well.

PS- I was in a hospital where 80% of women breastfeed and had daily visits from the lactation consultant once my son started feeding in the NICU.

Summary: too vague
Review: No matter what problem I was having, when I looked it up in this book, I still wasn't sure what was going on. For instance, when trying to wean my baby, I was experiencing soreness and pain. I would think that is a common problem that needs addressing, but there is only a vague mention in here. Or, when I was wondering what effect my diet had on the baby, or if I was sick, how would that affect him? I feel these are basic things that all women would want to know. If you compare this book to "What to Expect When You're Expecting" and it's sequel, "What to Expect the 1st Year" it pales by comparison. I never had to refer to any other source while those were around. If you want a handy resource while you're breastfeeding, keep looking.

Summary: Be patient--it does get easier
Review: Stick with the breastfeeding, Moms! It took me over a month to get comfortable with it and for my nipples to toughen up. But it truly is one of the best things you can do for your child. The book is a very supportive and non-judgemental companion, even for mothers who decide to supplement with formula. I have a 2 1/2 month old who is very happy on the breast (strictly). Great tips on storage and a "life in the day of one working mother".
My only criticism is that it doesn't help you with birth control options at all! I have an older copy, but there are pills on the market that are supposed to not interefere with your milk supply.
