Rating: Summary: Excellent reference Review: I first used an earlier edition of this book and found it to be invaluable in helping me to nurse my first child. I had many questions and concerns and found this easy-to-read book extremely helpful and comprehensive. I am now ready to use the new edition and find it to be even more thorough and informative. I recommend it to all my friends and will have it by my bedside for the next several months to come.
Rating: Summary: Discouraging Review: I found the book to be very vague and condescending. I felt the underlying message of the book was that if you do not succeed at breastfeeding, you have failed your child.
Rating: Summary: This book is wonderful for learning how to breastfeed. Review: I got this book from a friend and have read it cover to cover probably three or four times during my end of pregnancy and the first month of my baby's life. It is so helpful and answered all of the questions I had. The book is easy to find information on the subject you need. I recommend this to any one who is going to have a baby. It is also good to read if you wonder what the benefits of breastfeeding would be for your child.
Rating: Summary: A very good reference Review: I have found this book helpful in breastfeeding my son. The information is easy to understand and to follow. My husband and I both used it to get through the difficult first few weeks. I personally also found it less "gung ho" about breastfeeding and therefore more enjoyable as a reference.
Rating: Summary: The best breastfeeding book! Review: I have successfully breastfed two children and this book has a lot to do with it! I did a lot of research and reading prior to the birth of my first child and I found that this book had the best information in the most concise form. Now that I know the ins and outs of breastfeeding, I can say that this book is "right on"! It really focuses on lowering stress and letting the baby take the lead. This book is so good that I have given it to all of my friends when they have become pregnant...its a great baby shower gift!
Rating: Summary: Nursing? You need this book! Not nursing? You still need it! Review: I just met a pregnant woman who told me she wasn't going to nurse her baby. She had gotten bad information from friends who had gotten bad information and had breastfeeding problems. I convinced her to read this book and it made her realize what she AND her baby would be missing if they didn't share the nursing experience. It may sound melodramatic but it's true: this book is a lifesaver...for mom's and their babies.
Rating: Summary: The best breastfeeding resource available Review: I purchased this book randomly and feel that I hit the jackpot on the first try! This is perhaps the best and most informative book on breastfeeding available (I've read others and although many were good they all seemed to fall short in comparison) and it did much to boost my confidence both before my baby was born and in the challenging early weeks of nursing. The information found within the book is stated in a very clear, positive, orderly, consise, practical, and descriptive manner and the format makes it very easy to flip back and forth to clarify points and to answer questions. I assure you that you will refer to this book over and over again and it help you to be a success as a nursing team.

Rating: Summary: It's no wonder this book is a classic Review: I read an earlier edition of this book when my first baby was born in 1988. It ended up making four trips to the hospital before I "retired" it a year ago. I have read a lot of books on breastfeeding over the years (I'm a journalist who writes on this topic frequently), but I haven't found many other books that are this well researched and well written. I highly recommended this book in my own books about childcare and pregnancy and will continue to give it as a gift to friends and family members who are expecting their first babies. An entire generation of breastfeeding moms are grateful that this book exists.
Rating: Summary: This is an excellent book on breastfeeding! Review: I read most of this book while I was still pregnant and preparing for breastfeeding my baby. I found the information was clear and straight-forward. The tone may have been a little too "preechy". For instance, I had awfully sore nipples in the first few days, and the book said that you only get sore nipples if you are doing it incorrectly. It took a very good lactation consultant to get me over that hump. However, the authors are encouraging successful breastfeeding, whatever that means for you and your baby. There are sections about troubleshooting, supplimenting, going back to work and pumping, weight loss and exercise, and sexuality. The only part I haven't read yet is the chapter on weaning.
