Summary: Understanding G'ma
Review: While hearing Jackie speak in Dayton, OH I realized that she was speaking about my grandmother. The next day I shared with my mother some of Jackie's stories about caring for parents and about the learning curve in dealing with elderly parents. As my grandmother has moved in with mom the situation resonated very well with Jackie's experiences. In fact, as I described Jackies stories, my mother began to cry and purge her sense of guilt about the arguments and behavior difficulties with her own mother. I was able to advise and consul her and I had the book shipped immediately. I know the interactions will change for the best with Jacqueline's help. Thanks and may God continue to bless your expertise Ms. Marcell!

Review: I've never written a review for a book, but this book was so touching, I felt I had to write. I have had a similiar situation with taking care of my elerly grandparents without much support since 1996. It did not seem as if anyone understood what was going on with my grandparents' mood swings, forgetfullness, anger, and depression, least of all the so called "medical professionals." I was made to feel as if the symptoms my grandmother was having were just made up or the natural aging process. This book was so enlightening to see that the author had also gone through all this and we were not a unique situation. I recommend this book highly to anyone who is a caregiver for someone and is wondering if their going crazy!! This book explains that there is a light at the end of the tunnel, and helps you get there.

Summary: What Perseverance!Strength! and Love!
Review: This is ,without a doubt, a great book for someone working with the elderly or caring for them to read and learn from as well. I couldn't put it down and I was upset that it ended! I raced to the internet to find out what was happening in their lives. Jacqueline made me laugh and cry, sometimes both at the same time. It was a difficult situation, ok, more than difficult, but the way that she and ariana(the saint) pulled through was absolutely amazing. I am currently a graduate student and I was able to learn certain things from this book that I would never be able to learn in the classroom. Thanks for sharing your story. As an advocate for the elderly population, I wish that there were more people out there like you and Ariana to take care of their loved ones.

Summary: most heart touching book of the year
Review: Jacqueline's book brings humor to a tragic situation. Her thought provoking statements are altered with humorous commentaries that make it impossible to put the book down. Anyone who has in the past cared for someone with dementia or who is currently doing so must read this book.
There is a wealth of information to be found in it, along with the knowledge that the needs of the Elder population need to be addressed immediately, for them, and for their families.

Summary: elder rage or take my father please!
Review: Excellent resource for families dealing with Alzheimer's. As a healthcare professional I think this book provides the families a healthy way to view and deal with Alzheimer's. The sensitive humor allows the reader to understand that it is okay to laugh at absurd things our loved one's may do during the course of Alzheimer's. The book is so well written, it feels as though you are in the room as each setting takes place!!! You won't want to put it down!

Summary: A great book for caregivers!
Review: What a book! I received this book from an Elementary School teacher of mine hoping that it would help me understand some of the issues I will have to face being the caregiver of my mother who suffers from Alzheimer's Disease. It has. Jacqueline has such a great style of writing that just completely draws you to her story. She makes you feel part of her family. I think everyone can relate to "Elder Rage" to some degree. In my case, I was really glad to read this book because I feel so alone at times dealing with the things caregivers deal with. She put so many things into perspective for me as I am sure she has and will for so many others. "Elder Rage" has such a great flow about it, it makes you smile one minute, cry the next, and then fall on the floor laughing!
I highly recommend this book for anyone looking for help with caregiving decisions. It gives a lot of ideas and information about different types of dementia that I haven't seen anywhere else (and I do a lot of research on the internet about Alzheimer's Disease).

Summary: This book is a must for anyone who has elderly parents.
Review: I discovered Ms. Marcell's book just at the point I thought I was ready to be admitted to the local psych ward. My elderly stepfather had recently started exhibiting extreme changes in behavior. He was angry and somehow everything that went wrong in his life was my fault. This book is an honest, often funny, account of her "Life With Father and Mother". Her personal experiences have really been helpful in putting our situation into perspective. The Physician's Guide and caregiver resources at the end of the book as well the updates on her website are invaluable, especially for those of us just beginning to learn about elder care and the trials that can go with it. I wish I had found it earlier so we would have been able to recognize early signs of dementia and sought treatment and solutions before things got as out of control as they did.

Summary: Gotta laugh, gotta love 'em, gotta keep trying
Review: Jacqueline Marcell's Book "Elder Rage" is a wonderful heartfelt
account of her experiences taking care of her parents in their last years. She shares her pain, successes and failures with surprising honesty and delightful humor. I am in the middle of caretaking for my 90 year mother with dementia and I was laughing
out loud. Couldn't put it down! She was so persistent with coming up with new strategies to try new ways to help her parents. Takes a lot of forgiveness and loving somebody anyway. Makes me think about how we should be creating more options for the care of our dear old ones, who have nurtured us all our lives and now need a little help on their journey. Jacqueline, thanks for an IMPORTANT book!

Summary: Deeply Enhale, Slowly Exhale...a new way of life
Review: how many times have i said those words to myself and sometimes aloud..very aloud! i feel like i am a lucky one to have read jacqueline's book before the "you know what" hit the fan. i have been somewhat prepared and able to use jacqueline's experiences from the book in dealing with a very difficult mother-in-law, extremely determined father, and scared and confused mother. i surprised myself and i think i have surprised them with some of my actions and reactions. this book was extremely easy to read and i found myself laughing and crying on the same page. some of my friends and my sister have read this book and all agree what a great reference tool and guide to keep you in the proper frame of mind so you don't lose yours! we make reference to different parts of the book whenever we discuss our "situations" and that is almost daily. i would look forward to hearing jacqueline speak sometime in dallas, we all need her keen sense of humor and positive outlook on life.
