Summary: A GOD-SEND
Review: Recently I visisted my 84 yr. old father (with AD dementia) to relieve my older sister so she could get away for a few days.
Dad could not be that bad, I thought.

Before I arrived I stopped by the grocery for some diet-coke and a few magazines. I grabbed a copy of ATLANTA , mainly to see what great shopping i had missed being away from the big city. I was scanning the pages and found an article about dementia and loving your parents away from their home. For further reading the article recommended "Elder Rage". When i got home I ordered it right away.

Each word i read had my echo attached. She was a stranger writing my story, our story! I wanted to stop reading it but couldn't. I'm glad i read this one. I began to understand my sister's stress and my father's fear. I also saw what I needed to do to assist them. It opened my eyes and ears, but more important this book opened my heart.

God got my attention in a fashion magazine! A place he knew I could not miss it. Who would have thought it?

Thank you Jacqueline. Your father and mother were angels in disguise.

Summary: A book that helps
Review: I found Jacqueline's book very helpful, very practical, inspirational and despite the difficult topic, fun to read. Knowing that what you are experiencing is what unfortunately can be expected is comforting. The advice about how to deal with all the issues related to caring for someone with dementia is extremly helpful. I keep going back to the book for ideas, for the list of resources pointed to, for courage and strength. I highly recommend it to anyone who has to take care of someone who has Alzheimer disease.

Summary: Elder Rage
Review: This is a helpful book for families dealing with loved ones that are aging and having difficulty with dementia, mental illness, and geriatric syndromes. I believe this is a good resource for the health professional as well.

Summary: Elder Rage or Take My Father.....Please!
Review: I am now dealing with elderly, ill parents. When I began reading Jacqueline's book I felt as though she had been living with me and my family! Her techniques for dealing with a difficult parent were a great help to me. I highly recommend it for anyone who is dealing with this situation. In fact, I would recommend it to people BEFORE their parents get to the "Rage" stage so they will know what to expect and how to handle it.

Summary: If you can laugh, You'll be OK
Review: If it helps to know you're not alone (and it does) no one shares it better than Jackie. Once you get started on this book, you'll find yourself reading it staight through. There is lots of wonderful and practical advice here, too. There have probably been times when you've felt you are reinventing the wheel, but with the advice and wisdom of others who have already gone down this road, you'll find the journey so much smoother.

Summary: Reassuring and informative
Review: A must read for those taking care of the elderly. Even if there is no sign of dementia!! Since it's quite a task having to "parent" a parent this book will help anyone in a caregiving situation. It's reassuring to know your feelings are normal and how to cope with any guilt or resentment you may harbor. Jacqueline Marcell tells her true story so clearly and with wonderful emotions, you cannot put this book down. Read it, it's terrific!!

Summary: You Are My Sunshine, Jacqueline Marcell!
Review: When my father moved in with my family 8 months ago, my world began to spin wildly and turn upside down. His behavior has been unexplainable and unpredictable, including three marriages since my mother died less than 3 years ago! His ranting, raving, and uncontrollable rages have shaken my confidence in myself as a daughter, wife and mother, and professional. Reading "Elder Rage" has saved me! I understand my father's behavior much better, feel less defensive and guilty, and appreciate the extensive resources that are included in the book. Written with compassion and an incredible sense of humor, this book is a MUST READ for all adult children who are finding caring for their aging adults a challenge.

Summary: Elder Rage or Take My Father
Review: It was so nice of Ms. Marcell to write Elder Rage so those of us experiencing similar situations with our partents will not feel so alone. With some minor changes this book could have been written about my very own father. Ms. Marcell uses a wonderful sense of humor to tackle a very difficult situation. In addidion, she has a special helps section at the end of her book that will help anyone who is dealing with the "raging" parent.
This book has made my family realize that there is help, that we can talk about the behavior and that we do not have to tolerate it - but most of all Ms. Marcell tells us how to handle our raging parent with love. Thank you Jacqueline Marcell!!!!

Summary: Dementia Put in Perspective
Review: Anyone who has a parent with dementia knows that the daily job of coping with that person is a monumental job. This book is one of the best I have read. It makes you laugh, cry, want to use foul language and wonder why you didn't find it sooner. Jacqueline Marcell's way of communicating her feelings and her discoveries about her parents as well as herself are eye-openers. I, too, am dealing with a parent with dementia and it has taken three years to finally get some help. It might have happened sooner if I had had this book to read. This is a must read!

Summary: Mirror Image of My Father
Review: As I read this book, I was absolutely astonished at the similiarities between my father and the author's father. It was as though Jacqueline had knowledge of my father and just what I needed to know to help him thru his struggles with AD. I realize that AD is something of a mystery to the medical profession. But Elder Rage definitely helps the care takers and the family to deal with the ongoing dementia that robs us of our loved ones. The book can enlighten the medical as well as legal professionals to the needs and stuggles of families who care for their elder parents who are diagnosed with dementia. Thanks to Jacqueline Marcell for her honest and candid journal of her father's illness. It will make you realize that there is help in the form of support. I reccomend the book for anyone who has taken on the care of their parents.
