Summary: A Cry For Help
Review: As a full time caregiver for a difficult parent, I had heard the same platitudes from medical personel for two years, and I was desperate for some concrete answers. One of my children bought Elder Rage for me for Mother's Day (perhaps in hopes I won't be like my parent someday?). I had trouble putting it down--not only because it is informative in an entertaining way, but because it has real honest-to-goodness help. In addition to Jacqueline Marcell's story, she includes guidelines, information on insurance, diseases of the elderly, a physician's guide, websites, other readings, and my favorite--a section on how to handle situations. I have learned so much from the material, and I enjoy surfing the websites, but most of all, I made modifications in my own feelings and actions, which have helped both myself and my parent. I LOVE this book.

Summary: Elder Rage-Second Addition
Review: Wow!!!! This is an outstanding book. It's written with lots of wit and tons of patience and understanding of mental illness in our older parents. I've been a nurse for 35 years and have taken care of two family members with Alzheimer's. Father-in-law currently in the 2nd stages of disease. We are dealing with many of the same issues that you describe. I have Every family member reading this book, as most of them are in denial. Hopefully we will set an example to our own children so when our times comes they can take care of us with as much diginity as you have taken care of your parents. We all think you are wonderful. Thanks again for giving all of us a guide and a light at the end of the tunnel to follow.

Review: Elder Rage was most informative and hit the nail right on the head. Makes you realize that you are not alone with your struggles to do what needs to be done for aging parents. Good job! Jacqueline Marcell tells it like it is and gives you a lot of information with where to go to find help. This book should be recommended by doctors to all persons who have family members with dimentia or Alzheimers. I can certainly attest to the fact that it happens just as Jacqueline says it does.

Summary: Long Suffering Love
Review: The author's unique style of writing depicts the struggles of a daughter caring for her aging parents. Jacqueline takes you into her family and shows the good the bad and the ugly of dementia, and inovative ways to deal with it. Through long suffering love and wit she brings attention to the day to day plight of care taking. From the intense emotions to the laughter that heals. Before I read this book I thought I was alone. This should be a must read for anyone in the geriatric field. The first book I could relate to.

Summary: Elder Rage or Take My Father....Please!
Review: It is a must for anyone dealing with a difficult parent! After I've shed so many tears about my elder parent, it was great to laugh while reading this book. And while parental dementia and rage is a serious problem, this book helped me to see that I am not alone and through a changed perspective, I, too, could laugh at some of it's absurdities. In addition, it gave me wonderful resources in order to get help for my parent and for myself.

Summary: Elder Rage/ Second edition by Jacqueline Marcell
Review: As life come full circle you become the caregiver and the parent is the one receiving the care. You, the Baby Boomer Generation, are not ready to face this. You grieve, get angry, have to learn to deal with so many emotions. As in my family, we wanted to give our loved one the honor, respect and dignity they deserve but still meet their needs. Jacqueline Marcell's book, Elder Rage, or Take My Father, Please, not only informs us how to care for our loved one but puts the humor much needed to deal with the hard knocks of life. This is "Caregiving 101" in the school of life. A MUST READ!

Summary: Thank you, Jacqueline
Review: I saw Jacqueline Marcell's book advertised in the AARP bulletin, ordered it, and couldn't put it down. My mother suffered a stroke five months ago, and I am now caring for her in my home. The stroke has left her with personality changes for sure, but dementia had already begun to be evident even before that. I found Jacqueline's story to be a great comfort as she related experiences, some of which I am now facing on a daily basis. I found the suggestions on how to deal with all this very helpful. Thank you, Jacqueline, for writing this and for your response to my e-mail. Just knowing someone who has "been there" makes a lot of difference in my reaction to daily frustrations.

Summary: Elder Rage, My Rage
Review: Jacqueline's story is the story of many of us with a parent(s) of "a certain age". It is filled with useful information and insight into the aging process - that we will all go through. Her list of resources is invaluable. Her "story" was fast and easy reading, but most of all it was human. Her relationship with her parents is rich, trying and always loving. Her story is my story.
