Summary: Elder Rage
Review: Since I am the main caregiver for my elderly mother (85) and I live in a small town Jaqueline's book has encouraged me to get the proper medical help, ask the right questions and insist on definate answers from medical staff. Summary: First-hand account...Great insight!
Review: ELDER RAGE gives the reader a view of elder care from the inside...a view that can help others in similar situations cope. The rollercoaster ride that the author experienced with her parents in trying to find professional and caregiving help demonstrates the need for the establishment of a stronger network of elder care. The book demonstrates also how family history can affect the caregiving process ... an adult child trying to help with it, the parents trying to adjust to it. The appendices contain a plethora of valuable resource information. All in all, a book to keep on your elder care shelf.

Summary: Go Get It!
Review: Jacqueline Marcell's book, "ELDER RAGE", saved my sanity!! My family and I were running into brick walls trying to find an answer for my Dad's erratic behavior, and Ms. Marcell's book is the only place I could find any useful information that even came close to our situation. The questions the medical community either can't or won't answer, are addressed in this book in terms everyone can understand. I love this book, and I am so thankful Jacqueline wrote it. It is a gift to those of us taking care of a loved one with dementia, and is a "must read" for the whole family. Not only is it informative, it adds humor to a situation that is often times bleak. Because of ELDER RAGE, we treat our loved one with more patience, respect, and love than ever before. Knowledge is power, and this book is full of information. Go Get It!!

Summary: VERY ENLIGHTENING, INFORMATIVE, ENTERTAINING, HELPFUL!
Review: I have read this book in a mere few days. I spent several nights reading until early morning hours, as I could not put the book down. I HAD TO know what happened next! I feel the author told the story well and weaved in the details of her history with her parents. This book is for anyone who has dementia. I told my husband that we needed to drive out to California, as my husband's uncle is just like the author's father, and perhaps they are related! I saw so many comparisons in this book. We have three elders with dementia...my mom, and my husband's aunt and uncle. It was amazing that I saw a little of each one (ok, a LOT of the uncle!)in several of these scenarios. The author tells the story with humor, something we all need in dealing with people with dementia. This is a gotta have for children, grandchildren, friends, doctors, nurses, aides, counselors, etc who work with dementia patients. It is definitely our family members own personal hells that makes us feel like we are going down too. This book is great! Buy it, then tell everyone about it!

Summary: Elder Rage Or, Take My Father ... Please!!
Review: This was an absolutely incredible book! I have three elderly relatives ALL with dementia, ALL in nursing homes, ALL irrational! I could identify the author's parents with my husband's auntie and uncle; he, a dominant force in the relationship; she a shrinking violet, most of the time. I laughed at times, and nearly cried at others, as I saw the parallels between the author's dad and my husband's uncle. I told my husband we should drive out to California, because I think we found another family member! Seriously, this book is fabulous for children who find themselves locked in the twilight zone with no way out until death we do part from them (and in many cases, death is SOOOO much better than living that horrible existence for those with dementia.) Also, counselors, nurses, aides, drs, psychologists, nursing home administrators, social workers, ANYONE, who has ANYTHING to do with those with dementia need to read this book! I thank the author muchly for writing it! I told her I am about ready to write a book myself!

Summary: Elder Rage or " How do I Become the Parent to my Parents?"
Review: Elder Rage by Jacqueline Marcell is a "must read" for caregivers who feel alone and overwhelmed with the infinite decisions that assault them in their day to day caregiving experience, especially for those caring for loved ones who have severe memory loss or are aggressive towards their caregivers! Often experts are not available and decisions have to be made "on the fly".

I feel this book teaches coping skills, provides hope and laughter and has restored my faith in man(woman)kind!Few people would have taken the road Jacqueline did and I can only stand in awe of her love and perseverance and thank her for the great gift she has given our generation by revealing the most intimate of details in her efforts to cope with caring for her parents! .Especially helpful was the addendum by Dr. Shankle. A funny, gutsy book which helps the caregiver see the humorous side of memory loss while providing valuable insights and help which caregivers desperatly need! Thank you Jacqueline!

Summary: At Last - A Friend
Review: My sisters and I were a lost. My father developed Alzehimers and hide it very well from us. By the time we realized what was going on it was too late. We had to put him in a nursing home. My mother was unable to take care of him. She has dementia. We thought we were in this "craziness" by ourselves. Jackie's book gave us so much insight into this dreaded madness. There was a lot of useful information in the book. She pointed us in the right direction. We have since got my father eligible for Medicaid to help pay for the nursing home, learned more about the treatment. She made us laugh and cry at the same time. I take the train in to work, and believe me a lot of people must of thought I was crazy. One minute I was laughing, the next tears in my eyes. I recommend this book to anyone who has a parent or spouse going through this. If you aren't sure, read the book. It will clear up so much for you.

Summary: A must-read for families dealing with dementia.
Review: Having experienced my dad's anger and being completely bewildered by it, I can identify with Jacqueline's dilemma. I was an only child and I knew my father loved me dearly, so why was he treating me like this. Jacqueline explores the many possible reasons for this behavior and deals with it in some cases with humor, but also shows her feelings of helplessness at times. This book is a treasure for caregivers, family members and anyone who may have to deal with this horrific disease.

Summary: Jackie is Amazing !
Review: I marvel at the way Jackie keeps going, her strength is amazing! The book reminds me so much of my own situation. As far as dealing with the same type of character. Just different circumstances.I had a hard time putting it down. She has given me a foundation and a peace, I know I would not have found without reading her book. A place to stand, an assured foundation. I can make my decision without feeling like a failure. Thank you! So much for your caring devotion for others. And a quick response to my letter. God Bless! C. Morehouse
