Rating: Summary: Thank you,Jackie Review: Thank you, Jackie, Oh Jackie. I really thought that I was losing my mind until I read this book. I never thought that my mother was probably in the beginner stages of Alzheimers', or dementia, and that is probably why her behavior is so illogical and downright violent. I'd like to take her to the doctor, but I doubt if she would go. She probably is very scared herself of what is happening to her. At least I know now not to blame myself, she is very good at making me feel guilty about her condition. Thanks again, Jackie Oh!
Rating: Summary: Elder rage Review: i found this book to be very helpful with caring for elderly. it was written with much insight, humbor, and i cried and laughed my way through it
Rating: Summary: A Caregiver's Raves Review: I applaud Jacqueline Marcell's courage to write such a heart- wrenching, intimate account of diving into the deep end of her elderly parents' lives. Her priceless humor punctuated the highs and lows of the play-by-plays in a daughter's search for sanity and clarity in her loving care for her elderly parents throughout this wonderful book. As a seasoned daughter-caregiver, I highly recommend Jacqueline's book as a "must-read" for those who have traveled this demanding and sometimes difficult path or for those who are about to start the journey.
Rating: Summary: A Remarkable Story and a Required Guide for Caregivers Review: Jacqueline's story will touch the heart and soul of any family member who has cared for or will care for the elderly. I connected immediately with this story, recently experiencing the nightmare of trying to obtain help for my elderly parents. Just when I thought I had reached my emotional limit, someone recommended "Elder Rage" to me. This book has turned me around. I know that if this book had been available five years ago, I would have avoided a lot of the current unpleasantness of my family's situation. "Elder Rage" provides sound advice from the voice of experience. It is not only a heartfelt story, but an excellent guide to caring for the elderly and for locating appropriate help. It is useful both as a planning resource and a healing mechanism. I have looked at and read other books on caring for the elderly, but none present the reality of the daily situation more clearly. I laughed and I cried as I read this book, and realized when I finished it that I felt less alone. I have a new perspective about my role and about my parents. My undying thanks to Jacqueline Marcell.
Rating: Summary: What a valuable and wonderful book Review: I started reading the book and could not put it down, I stayed up until 2:00am it was such an easy book to read, Mostly because i was finding that i related to so much of what this daughter went through. I am so blessed that i found this book. It was meant for me to read the article from the April AARP magazine and find this book. It was almost like AARP article dated 4/01 appeared out of nowhere at our dad's house, btw did not read until may 14 when dad was diagnosed with dementia, Altz & we were at our wits end and I said to myself "where is that dementia article" and after reading that articel I could not wait to get the book, I am so glad that i did. This book does provide solace and several great checklist and valuable references, in and of itself saves time and research, Thank goodness for Jacqueline having the courage of her convictions to write this book. She is an amazing woman and I am so glad she is out there trying to help us baby boomers get through this terrible disease that is a theif to ones mind, soul and life.

Rating: Summary: I Loved This Book!!! Review: Reading Jacqueline Marcell's book "Elder Rage or, Take My Father... Please" was a truly wonderful experience for me. As a daughter with a father with dementia I could totally relate to her experiences, getting drawn in on the first page. Ms. Marcell uses humor in describing her journey with her parents and I would find myself laughing out loud one minute, then crying the next as she described her next frustrating challenge. She offers many helpful hints and lists resource agencies as well as writing about the latest research being done in this area. This book is a MUST for anyone who is caring for or dealing with a loved one with dementia. Thank you, Jacqueline, thank you!!
Rating: Summary: Affirmations to the Author Review: This book is a must read for anyone who has any interaction with Demented Seniors. Whether you are a caregiver yourself, work in healthcare setting or are a relative of someone who has Alzheimer's or Dementia. You must read this book. Jacqueline Marcell is so painfully honest about her feelings, her reactions and interactions with those in the Medical profession. She has defined the frustrations of taking care of a loved one as no other author has. Jackie punctuates emotionally tense scenes with classic lines used by T.V. personalities and lyicists that make you laugh when you knew you'd otherwise cry. My heart went out to her and her parents as she tracks the antics of her father Jake and her mother Muriel. I came away from this family's tragedy with a feeling of relief, "success at last" for the whole family. She doesn't end the book without the feelings of hope, gratitude and valuable resources. Rating: Summary: Finally, someone who understands! Review: With a husband in the mid stages of Alzheimer's and a mother experiencing dementia and memory loss, I have been tearing my hair out trying to deal with their quirks and tempers. No one seems to realize what a terrific physical and mental drain it is for a caretaker in the day to day fray. Jacqueline Marcell has been there, done that! Her experience, written with wit and humor, has shown me that there is hope for those in the caregiving role. We may not ever receive the appreciation that we deserve for a thankless role, but by God we can laugh to keep the tears at bay.
