Summary: "Alter Personality, Mother Dear"
Review: My search was over when I discovered someone had actually written a book on "Dementia". I immediately identified with the author so well! Jacqueline's "Words of Wisdom" deserves to receive a "Gold Medal" for a high achievement in her unique writing ability and such style and wit! No one could get through what she did with her father without adding frequent humor. For nearly three years, my sister and I were my mother's care givers. I wish I had read Jacqueline's "Elder Rage or Take My Father.....Please!" much ealier. Advance knowledge is so important when dealing with Dementia later. I am "Honored" to be in contact with her. She is truely a survivor of such devistating circumstances and I will always "admire" her. There are many highlights in her book, but one that stands out is on page 220, paragraph 2. Becomming a parent of a parent is an adjustment, but with a positive outcome. I am a stronger person because of Jacqueline Marcell!! She should really consider making a movie out of her true story! Unfortunately, my mother has passed away at 91, but I would never have been able to get through my own experiences without "Elder Rage", even if I found it when my mother was in her advanced stages of Dementia. Jacqueline is "My Friend and Inspiration". Thank you very much to her and her strength, love and caring in her own reversal role.

Summary: MY ANGEL
Review: Being the only sibling and taking care of my 84 year old mother, I found this book to be my salvation. I received thru this book ways to which I should handle Mom, ways to help her help herself and helpful hints, like using velcrove on devices so she can shut things off and on,to emergency braclets, in case she decides to go walking and forgets where she lives, to medication, which I knew nothing about. I also received times of humor, which I dearly needed and felt like I was sharing the same experiences. I am on my second time around with this book and have told many of my friends about it. I hope to meet Jacqueline personally someday to thank her.

Summary: ONE GREAT BOOK!
Review: I have recently read this book and feel better about my situation than I have in months. I too, have a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde in my family. My uncle's once sweet, gentle and loving temperament have turned to anger, bitterness and unspeakable rage! I learned a lot from this book, and it is comforting to know that my wife and I are not in this alone. This is one great book. I had not read a full book in years, always losing interest. I started on Saturday morning and by Sunday afternoon, had read it cover to cover. I just had to see what happened next. My uncle's dr is a lot like many of the drs, Mr. Know It All who does not care about my opinions or my concerns for my uncle. This is a great read!

Summary: FINALLY, A BOOK THAT SAYS IT ALL!
Review: I have read Jacqueline's book, as has my husband. We have three aging parents ALL with dementia. I laughed, I cried, I cringed, I nodded in agreement and understanding at the author's situation. This book really helped both my husband and me to get it through our heads that we are not the only ones out there with this tough road ahead of us, and in dealing with the situation we are in. I have recommended this book to every nurse, nursing home administrator, aide and caregiver I know, as well as friends and family stuck in similar situations. We too, have run across doctors, psychologists and gerontologists who no more care about our opinions or our concerns about our loved ones than anything. I would venture to say they have never been in this situation, or I guarantee their snide remarks would be replaced by compassion, comfort, understanding and a willingness to work with, not against, the frustrated family member(s). If you're frustrated by a loved one with dementia, and feel you are all alone in your situation, you have to read this book! It will make you feel better, and help you to realize dementia is an unfortunate illness for many of our aging loved ones. This book shows both humor and deep compassion, something we all need when living in this situation. Thanks Jackie!!!!! 5 STARS!!!

Summary: A must read!
Review: I recently read this book after searching for a long time for useful information on caring for an aging parent. Finally someone wrote a humorous, yet informative first-hand account of their experience. I found this book a spiritual uplift and it gave me a new way to deal with my situation. Don't waste your time on books written by so-called experts, listen to Jacqueline..she knows of what she speaks! This book should be endorsed by all the agencies devoted to aging! I was very impressed! My thanks to the author!

Summary: Baby Boomer is delighted with this book!
Review: What a touching, exciting book of true love and tough love. I highly recommend this book to fellow members of the baby boomer generation. I am thankful that Jacqueline had the courage to share her story with us. She skillfully tells of the turbulant times while using great humor and provides valuable resources and information for dealing with this disease. If you've had the priviledge of hearing her talk about the experiences as I have, you will quickly feel the passion she has for this subject. The passion comes through in this book. This is a must read!

Summary: Wonderfully helpful
Review: As a caregiver for now my fourth family member, I found Ms. Marcell's book to offer not only valuable help, but also be witty and incisive. Written to be easy-to-understand for the layman. I was thoroughly in awe of just what lengths the author went to get her parents the help that they and she deserved. I was literally crying, laughing, angry, and relieved throughout the entire book. A must-read for anyone who finds themselves faced with caring for aging parents.

Summary: I can relate!
Review: I have not yet reached this point with my parents, but know others who have. I enjoyed the reading and did learn quite a bit from the situations the author encountered with her parents and caregivers. I can also relate because I have an uncle with Alzheimers. His wife went through alot of the same situations and problems. The author did a great job of explaining the different stages that her parents went through and the steps she took to resolve these problems. I don't think I would have been so patient! I appreciated the resources in the back of the book. I took her advice and have made an appointment with Dr. Shankle for my mother!

Summary: Don't walk ... Run to buy this book!
Review: As a women business owner, caregiver, and daughter, I found this book invaluable! Caregivers, are concerned, real people with busy lives, families, and careers who need a healthy perspective, balance, and fast information. Jacqueline Marcell's book gives you all of this plus it's humor reminds us that we are in this together--a shared experience facing millions of people. Many, many people must deal with extremely difficult parents or relatives and need help doing so. The book's humoristic, down to earth style gives you time to think, and react in an informed straight forward manner. The resource section is especially good, along with the book's website. Truly, "Elder Rage" is "Must Read" for all of us!
