Summary: It is in the book, ( the CD and online appendix)
Review: The forms in the book are confidence builders for parents because they give you a resource to get all the information you need. Don't be surprised if you don't get back all the applications you send out, particularly the childcare reference form. Applicant's are not going to put down false information when they know you are going to check their references and their background.

Solid Information for hire and employment.
Small business owners, and people that work from their homes would benefit from the forms in the book and the tax and immigration information available on the site. Specific questions on the ABC application help parents secure information about the strangers they are considering bringing into their homes.

Summary: It truly is a handbook for hiring nannies
Review: The page count is very misleading. It seems like the book has a lot of forms, but the text on the forms is very useful. The child care reference form is very good, I wish I would have asked those questions when I hired my last nanny. Downloading forms from IRS saves time. The section on job descriptions and schedules is very helpful. The CD-Rom makes the book good for several uses because you don't have to fill in the forms in the book. The only thing missing is simple recipes for the nanny. The best thing about the book is the author sticks to the presenting straight information. She created terms like parent employer and childcare trio, she does not offer her opinions nor does she tell stories. The ABCs of Hiring a Nanny is really a step by step program. This is a great gift for a co worker at the office shower.

Summary: Great gift for professionals hiring in home childcare.
Review: There are no national standards for live in childcare. There should be. There are many federal and state regulations. This book not only provides information about the fiscal responsibilities of the process, the needs assessment helps you determine just what you need and how to interview the candidate according to your needs and determine her abilities. One standard that should be introduced is no one should come into your home with out a tb test. The application form(s) and the childcare reference form give you very important information. The web site is really an appendix to the book and connects to IRS forms, provides a directory of placment agencies and nanny training schools. One sad part of the site is there many more placment agencies than training schools. The cd-rom allows parents to print out the forms each time they look for a provider. The page count is very misleading because of the links to forms and the cd.

Summary: Household Employer
Review: This book is a wonderful resource for new parents considering a nanny as well as parents who have hired nannies in the past. The days are gone where a friend of a friend knew an 18 year old in Utah who would be a good nanny because she "loves kids". The stakes are higher & parents know and expect more today. We want a real nanny caring for our children & not anything less. Fran's book provides the kind of information parents find incredibly useful at a time when they are making one of the most important hiring decisions they will ever make.

Summary: All you need to know about hiring a nanny!
Review: This engaging text is chock full of useful, common sense information that every parent should have when they embark on the search for "Mary Poppins." It contains the questions you need to ask yourself and your potential employees, as well as all the technical data you will need for hiring and record keeping. I highly recommend this book to novices and old-timers alike!

Summary: Practical Guide for Special Situation
Review: This handbook for hiring treats hiring a nanny like hiring any other employee. The difference is you are the chain of command, and the only resources for the employment will be the ones you develop. Check the references of the caregiver carefully. Also if you have a documented foreign worker with the right to work in this country and she approaches you about not paying Social Security, tell her that you are no longer interested in her services and you will report her to the INS. This author has been telling us for five years that the INS doesn't understand it's own rules. Now the President seems to agree. If you live in an area where you don't have many options and you hire an illegal alien, get her immunized and protect your child.

Summary: Good book, great information about the hiring process
Review: This is a great book. Downloading IRS forms and having all the other forms you need saves time. Checking the nannies background is much easier with the employment kit. It is easy to understand.

Summary: This is a good gift for a new working mother
Review: We bought this book four years ago and are pleased that it is still a top match on amazon.com. The forms disk is really a big help to parents and we have seen this book mentioned in major magazines. Also this nanny book is on the NOAA employees reading list and that is a good recommendation. We just bougt the author's second book, The ABC's of Credit and it is a great little book also. The fact that there are several nanny related businesses that link from this listing speaks well for the author. I noticed visiting agency webpages that many agencies now require the TB test before accepting an applicant for placement. This was unheard of until Hernan pushed hard on the issue.
