Rating: Summary: A very good book with great advice Review: As a parent of four I must say I really enjoyed this book. We can never be too overprotective of our children. It's a dangerous and crazy world out there. Another book that has helped me understand the violence among children, teenagers and from adults toward children, especially in the chapter on Identity Crisis, is Dietmar Scherf's "I Love Me: Avoiding & Overcoming Depression"--I highly recommend it for every parent...it's available at Amazon.
Rating: Summary: Very informative and useful tips for feeling safe today. Review: This book made me aware of just how much women ignore their own internal safety signals. I have purchased several copies to give to friends who live alone and have shared their insecurities with regard to being single women in today's violent environment. This is a must read!
Rating: Summary: Ever have a hunch and ignore it? Review: Gavin Points out that your inner voice should not be suppresed, and I agree. All men that need a bit of insight into women and thier fears, need to read this. And all women need to read this period.
Rating: Summary: Gavin De Becker is my hero Review: What can I say about this wonderful book and the incredible manwho wrote it. His words have helped me immensely in many aspects of mylife, not just in parenting.
Rating: Summary: Worried about your Children? You will be soon. Review: If you don't already worry enough about your children, you will after the first chapter of this book. For those parents who trust their instincts, try not to worry about everything, are not overly protective, but teach their children how to be safe in an unpredictable situation, this book just might scare you into worrying about things you never thought you had to worry about. Recognizing that this was not DeBecker's intent in writing, but you may only be able to read a few pages at time so as not to cause a nightmare.
Rating: Summary: A book so important, I give it as a baby shower gift! Review: This is the best book I've read to address the safety of our children. It is genius in its simplicity...you could teach very young kids his tactics without ever scaring them. I give this book as a baby shower gift to all of my friends because it is that important.
Rating: Summary: You have to read this book!!! Very informational. Review: This is definately a must read for all parents, grandparents, etc. It also wouldn't hurt if daycare providers, and pediatricians read it as well. This book has become my "token gift" to those with children or who are expecting. It is a wonderful resource and a great source of encouragement that even in these times of turmoil in our nation, there are things that parents can do to keep their children safe, and still remain sane. Thank you Gavin, for an incredible book.
Rating: Summary: A MUST read for all parents-A should read for everyone else! Review: This book should be on all recommended reading lists at all Lamaze and other birthing classes; All parenting classes! It is an enlightening look at a sensitive subject- done with reality based brillance and even some humor!
Rating: Summary: This is a great book and a must for new parents. Review: This is a great book. For any new parent (as I am) or for anyone with kids, this book provides some very practical steps to take to protect your kids. It is as good as his first book.
Rating: Summary: A hard-edged, reality check, must read for all parents! Review: As the mother of a beautiful baby girl and survivor of molestation by a family friend, I've become somewhat obsessed with doing whatever it takes to make sure my daughter stays safe. This book contains a lot of hard facts, statistical data, and some disturbing anecdotes, all conveyed with compassion and understanding. Gavin DeBecker's book made me take a hard look at my fears and sort the rational from the crazed, and focused my attention to what we can all do to keep our children out of harm's way.
