Rating: Summary: Disappointed Review: This book wasn't helpful to me at all. I didn't even bother to finish it. It just puts names into arbitrary groupings, which (as I said) wasn't really helpful. I don't care if the authors think the name I like is a "feminissima" name or a "yuppie" name - if you do, then this is probably the book for you.
Rating: Summary: Fun and informative read Review: This is NOT a typical baby name book! What this book has to offer are some really useful tips for naming your baby now. There is a wonderful section on gender-neutral names, which I found really useful. A number of names that were traditionally male have crossed over to being used as girl's names, and they had a great list of which names these are, and which names are on their way to being there. While the book is not laid out like a traditional baby book, it is laid out in a fun way, and I find myself (and friends) reading sections just for fun. If you want to know what each name means, I suggest getting a different book. If you want a fun commentary on names and how they are being used today, along with a list of names you might never have thought of, then I recommend this book to you. Happy naming!
Rating: Summary: If you really want to read a name book, this is it! Review: This is not some list of origins and meanings, it actually gives you valuable information. When you name your child do you really think all his friends are going to care that his name means "little king"? This book is pure fun and education for those of us who love the name game. Beyond that it does something that I would love to be able to do with the same tact, it says "hey you, that name you're thinking about has been used way too much!" This book was written for all of us who think if we meet another Ashley or Brittany we just might scream. But it's also for those soon to be parents out there that still think Jennifer is hip and Sophie is an old lady name. I had this book long before becoming pregnant and still flip through it now that my daughter is three. I buy a copy for every close friend that become pregnant. I personally love this book! One warning though, if you like really common 80's type names i.e. Jennifer and Jason, you will probably really not like this book, however if you're ready to really explore all your options, this is the one for you! It's a great journey!
Rating: Summary: Enjoyable and Thought provoking... Review: Though I am still without a name for this child, I rank this book very highly. This book helped me sort out some concerns I had and explain some things to my husband with regard to naming...such as why picking a name for the 2nd baby that starts with the same letter as the 1st baby may cause trouble down the road...what if there is a 3rd baby? It also allowed me to explain why after having a "Reese" it would seem a little odd to have a "Dave." These are things that not everyone considers, but should. I found this book helpful in the process though it didn't necessarily yeild a product.
Rating: Summary: The Best Baby-Naming Book There Is Review: Unlike most of the people who buy Beyond Jennifer & Jason, Madison & Montana and its companion books, I have never used this book to name an actual baby but use it instead to name characters in the stories I write. I have always found it far more helpful in choosing character names than most other baby name books. I have always had a fascination with names, and this book gives better detail about how names actually function in our world. The only thing I dislike about this book is the authors' sense of which names are too dated to use, but this may just be a generational response on my part (I tend to think of names like Dorothy, Phyllis, Walter, and Raymond as so far out they're in again, whereas they just think of them as dated ). But overall, this book is an excellent choice for anyone who needs to name anyone else.

Rating: Summary: The ultimate book of baby names! Review: Want to name you daughter Zara? Isabella? Annie? It's all here and these two wonderful authors provide brilliant information and advise. They write about whats hot and what names will be the names of the centery. They also speak of what will always be out and what might come back in to style. Sibling names is also an issue in this book (VERY helpful.) Why not Benjamin? Oakley? Julian? This is the ultimate book of baby names!
Rating: Summary: Best naming book- Read it cover-to-cover in an afternoon! Review: We received several naming books of various types. I enjoyed browsing the dictionary-type but this is the one that I couldn't put down- Also the one that helped us come up with THE names! I enjoyed how they organized the lists so that you could identify the type of name you wanted first (old fashioned, modern, unique, etc.) and then search for the specific name.
Rating: Summary: THE BEST NAME BOOK OUT THERE! Review: Wild? Yes. But so is the world of baby-naming these days. I'm expecting my third baby and I've come to rely on these authors to tell me the whole truth about names and what's happening out there. The adventurous names here and so are the more down to earth choices -- and these writers help parents tell the difference. Believe me, not even your best friends will tell you what these books do -- they'll just whisper it behind your back!
