Summary: A great sourcebook
Review: Okay, so I'm only nineteen and nowhere near the time when I'm ready to name my babies. However, I am a writer, and my characters' names are very important to me. I have bought all the editions of this book, and think that this one is definitely the best (not that the others are bad). I use it all the time. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who's interested in names.

Summary: Good, except for unisex names
Review: The one thing that I don't like about this book is their view on the unisex name issue. They seem to encourage the use of solid masculine names on girls, but they warn against using names like Avery and Morgan on boys because they think it will be bad for the boys with those names. I think that boys should reclaim the names that the girls have "taken" from them, and the girls should stop taking away good boy's names. Other than that, the book is fair to good.

Summary: THE OPINIONS ARE WHAT MAKE THIS BOOK THE GREATEST!
Review: This book does offer opinions about names -- which are trendy, which are outdated, which are coming into style -- and that's what makes it the best name book around! First-time parents have no other honest guide to these issues. This book is fun to read as well as being instructive and enlightening. If you really want to find the best name for your baby, this is the book for you!

Summary: A little judgemental
Review: This book had some very good names. I also liked the way it was set up,but I felt the writers were judgemental about some of the names they listed. For instance some they listed as uncool, others as way out. I wish the writers would have been a little more open minded about simple names and classics.

Summary: Same names, different lists
Review: This book has many of the same names, listed again and again in different lists. I was looking for a book that had more of a dictionary style, without all the chit chat. This book was a waste of money, in my opinion.

Summary: what will I name this child?
Review: This book is a paper back. The pages turn freely and reads easily as well. The unfortunate part is the same names you already know are in it. This book has a Africian section,Italian and old fashioned names etc. etc. I reccommend to buy this book and circle the names you like. Have your wife\hubby do the same. In no time you shall have a few names picked out. For us, we circled the ones we do not hate. Still we have not found the perfect name. Luckly we have 20 more weeks to go!

Summary: A must have for all parents to be
Review: This book is great. It sorts the names into all kinds of useful categories and is filled with interesting quotes and facts about naming. The section on African-American names is incredibly enlightening and essential reading for anyone who has ever been critical of African-American naming practices. It is also a great book for naming a second or third child--as you can easily get ideas for names which "go with" your other children's names. The authors tastes in names in impeccable. If you like trashy or trendy names this book is NOT for you--but if you are looking for a meaningful, classy, solid name for your child I would highly recommend this book

Summary: The baby name book every parent should buy!
Review: This book is the smartest, most useful baby naming guide around. We've been having lots of fun with it -- and it's leading us to some great names we wouldn't have found otherwise. Even if you've already bought another book on names, you've gotta have this one, too.

Summary: A Must Have!
Review: This book was great! The way it divides the names up into seperate lists is great.... I was however a little disappoined to find my 2 year old daughters name on the "so far in they are out" list of names. But the book also gives great advice on how to choose names, such as the section on naming a sibling.... things that make a lot of sense, but I may not have thought of before. This book is a must have for anyone who is having a baby and needs some suggestions. I highly recommend it!

Summary: Disappointed
Review: This book wasn't helpful to me at all. I didn't even bother to finish it. It just puts names into arbitrary groupings, which (as I said) wasn't really helpful. I don't care if the authors think the name I like is a "feminissima" name or a "yuppie" name - if you do, then this is probably the book for you.
