Rating: Summary: I don't mean to go along with the crowd, BUT... Review: As other reviews clearly state, this is an excellent book! I'll give some main reasons why: 1. Provides TONS of ideas for age-appropriate games to play with baby (gets rid of repetitiveness that comes from singing one song or playing one game OVER and OVER...and takes the guessing game out of "What can I do to entertain my baby?") 2. Has vibrant illustrations/photos showing parents and babies playing/bonding during the games (which draws my attention even more to the book) 3. The games can be played practically anywhere, often not requiring toys or juggling acts on the part of the parent (thus leaving the games very versatile, functional, and practical) Overall, this book is a MUST HAVE for any parent with an active baby. I just wish more "baby games" books were like this one!
Rating: Summary: Pretty book but... Review: Beautiful book, would make a nice gift. However, chances are if you have a kid, you're already doing a lot of this stuff.
Rating: Summary: Lots of fun Review: Great book for when you need a push in the right direction for things to do with your growing and developing baby!
Rating: Summary: Great! Review: Gymboree has really done well with this one! If you buy this book you will be able to sing, dance, excersise your baby, create things, and many of the activities are suitable for newborns. Simply the best book of it's type that I have ever seen.
Rating: Summary: For those wondering "what do I do with this infant"... Review: here's the answer! I spent the first 3 months wondering what to do to occupy my daughter's time. She was very alert from birth and constantly looking for stimulation. I discovered this book around 4 months and it's been great! She loved doing "Baby Sit-ups" and was sitting up on her own by 5 1/2 months! Great activities with specific focus on different developmental areas.
Rating: Summary: Creative Ideas for Maximum Loving, Minimal Equipment Review: I am always on the look out for books that can help busy parents come up with creative ways to engage their babies in simple ways that may make a lasting contribution both in their loving relationship as well as help the baby's development over time. This title does both nicely with colorful, inspiring illustrations as well. Especially valued as well is the authors intentionally chose activities that are loosely structured, don't require purchase of special stuff and create the context for a lot of loving interaction between the baby and parrent. Even as a creative parent, I run out of new ideas and love finding new techniques in one place, as Gymboree lays out here.
Rating: Summary: Great help in developing your babies motor skills! Review: I bought this book when my daughter was almost 4 months and wished I had it from the start. She's 13 months now and we worked through the whole book her first year. She walked at 9 1/2 months and I sincerely think it was due to us working on her motor skills through these exercises. People have always remarked at her development, too. More importantly, it gave us something to do together! Some days you just don't know what to do next with this tiny baby and adding these games into our routine really helped me enjoy our time together. I highly recommend this book!
Rating: Summary: Fabulous book to use through baby's first year Review: I got this as a gift when my son was almost 5 months old. I wish I had gotten it sooner because it has so many great ideas. The book is laid out according to age and the games you can play at those ages. Each page describes an activity you and your baby can do together and then explains what motor skills are used and developed. What I really like about this book is that it uses items that you already have around the house to make interactive "toys" for your baby. It just goes to show that you don't have to spend a lot of money to occupy their time. Oh, I almost forgot about the songs. The authors include lyrics to songs that you may have long forgotton since your youth. I had run out of songs to sing until I read this book. Now we have a whole new library!
Rating: Summary: wow! this book is fun and insightful Review: i have heard Dr. Leiderman speak numerous times and she is somehow able to capture the excitement she conveys in person onto the pages of this book. if you have a new baby this book is a must!!
Rating: Summary: Awesome for new parents Review: I LOVE this book! When our (first) son was about 6 weeks old, we had figured out how to cover his basic needs. But then we would look at him and think "What are we supposed to do with him NOW? How do you entertain this little guy while at the same time teaching him something?" This book gives this the answers. The activities are easy to do, well presented and don't require a lot of expensive stuff. Some of the activities are things we were doing anyway - but it was nice to get validation that our silly games were actually developmental activities. I felt like a new and improved mom with this book. This is my new standard shower/baby gift and all 4 recipients have loved it, too. It's a great investment - buy it!
