Summary: An old stand-by
Review: This should not be the only parenting book you have, but it is a good one to keep in your collection. Pros: it covers just about anything having to do with kids. Cons: there's so much stuff that it often doesn't go into enough detail. It's a book I'm going to keep on my shelf as my kids grow and not give away, but it's definitely not my only resource.

Summary: The Gold Standard in Baby Books
Review: Wonderful, Wonderful, Wonderful. Dr. Spock's book is a treasure. so many baby books don't give you the big picture; this one does. Spock's book with its foundation in developmental psychology and its non-judgemental tone is a book that you will turn to again and again. Spock lets you know what he thinks is best, but he also lays out other options in a fair manner. He never loses the sight of the fact that parenting is more than diaper changes and late night feedings.

Initially, I purchased the paperback, but when I saw that I would rapidly destroy it through rereading, I obtained a hardcover copy.

Summary: Great Baby Book for Vegetarians
Review: Dr. Spock's latest book includes wonderful information on why and how your baby and/or child should be vegetarian. As a vegetarian mother, I want to make sure I give my baby the best diet possible, and this book offers tons of information that supports a vegetarian, even vegan, diet for children. I found his recommendations invaluable.

Summary: A Must Have For All Parents!
Review: I am currently pregnant with my third child and purchasing a new copy of this book because the one I used for my first two children is so dog-eared I can hardly read it anymore! I have always found Dr. Spock's advice to be reassuring and incredibly helpful. The best thing I like is the thoroughness - whatever you are looking for you will find something on it in this book. I haven't experienced the same with ANY other comparitive book on the market. I totally disagree with some comments on here that Spock's advice is cruel and "bordering on abuse"!?!? Come on now! That is absurd. The reality is that this book contains a great deal of helpful information and thoughtful advice - but the advice is optional, if you don't want to take it, don't!

Summary: 2nd Best from the Bible
Review: You will need to have this book to use as a reference. I first heard of this book from my mom. She told me that she looked to some of Dr. Spock's remedies for help with my brother & I. As a first time mom, I decided to listen to my mom for a change, and am glad I did. This book is wonderful. All parents should have it. It should be given to mothers in the hospitals when they deliver their babies. However, Dr. Spock on Parenting is not at all recommended, because it is very narrow in its approach to give advise on parenting.

Summary: "KIDS TAKE NEW YORK" LOVES DR SPOCK
Review: From the moment as a new and nervous mother I read "Trust yourself you know more than you think" I was hooked. Seven years and many child-care books later, it's still the most sensible and down to earth advice I've found. - Christine Diamond, author of "Kids Take New York - The best of what to do,see, buy and eat with your kids in New York City."

Summary: An oldie but a goodie after four kids it still gets used
Review: I receive this book at the shower for my first child which was 9 years ago, over the years I have used it many times for answers to my parental questions especially ones dealing with medical problems. The most usefulness of this book is the quick reference on subject matters as I have always found an answer to my problems.

Summary: non-illustrative
Review: Book has no colored pictures. It's pages are non glossy, yellowish colored paper. It has no examples or charts. I was very disappointed in the way the book looked (cheap).

Summary: Reassuring and Valuable Advice
Review: "Dr. Spock's Baby and Child Care" is an essential resource for parents. The book is well organized and covers its subject matter in a clear, common sense manner. I relied on it, along with "How to Raise a Healthy Child in Spite of Your Doctor" by Dr. Robert Mendelsohn. These books provided essential parenting support: they helped me cope and successfully manage many crises, incidents, and minor problems through my daughter's infancy, childhood, and early teens.

Dr. Spock's respect for his readers helped me gain self-confidence and follow my own instincts and judgment. His encouragement to "trust yourself" is coupled with medical information and parameters that enable appropriate decisions.

Summary: A Timeless Resource for Parents
Review: This is a must-have for every parent's library! Common sense and time-tested advice, updated for today's parents. I bought this when I was expecting my first child, and 14 years later, still refer to it.
